Grounds for Sculpture

Not far off of Route 295 is a park that will enthrall you. Grounds for Sculpture is a park that sits apart from the ordinary. Grounds for Sculpture is just what it says, park grounds that have numerous sculptures on them. They do charge an admission price which ranges from five dollars to twelve dollars per person, based on the day that you go.

Grounds for Sculpture offers paths you can follow which highlight the numerous sculptures throughout the park. The paths are comfortable for walking and are mostly made of rubber grates and gravel, though there are some concrete walkways as well. There are sculptures around every bend and in every corner. Sometimes if you sneak off the path you can find a hidden sculpture behind a tree or bush. One was tucked away with a small table and chairs you could enjoy with a friend. It is large and yet has many private corners. You never feel like you with a crowd. One of the neat features is that the park will close if they feel it has gotten full so you can enjoy the full experience of the park without a large crowd. At the time I had gone, the parking lot was full and there were a few extra spots on a side parking lot. Most of the experience, I walked alone and never felt as if others were there. It almost felt like I had the experience to myself. It was such a lovely occasion.

The property also boasts Toad Hall, Rats which is a restaurant along with a museum area, an automobile area and more. Their webpage offers a map of the grounds so you can see where each building is on the property. Restrooms are available at the buildings along with a unit that is in the middle of the walk about area.

One of the great things about this nature path through art is that all ages can enjoy their time there. I saw both young and old on the pathway and there are plenty of benches to sit if you need a break. The sculptures range from very small to very large and there are animal sculptures, people and free form art. One of my favorite pieces sits atop a hill with many large rocks balancing upon one another.

Finding your way to the park is not difficult coming off of Route 295 as there are signs that lead you in the proper direction. You will also notice large sculptures all along the drive to the park! These will let you know you are heading in the right direction. Not sure how to find your way back to Route 295? No problem, the booth where you pay can offer you a map of how to retrace your steps back to Route 295. It's both easy to find, and easy to find your way back to the highway.
