Group Halloween Costume: Octomom and Babies

Fun and Unique Idea for a Winning Group Costume

Meucci Cameron
The best Halloween group costumes are funny and topical. Octomom, Nadya Suleman is all of that in a nut shell. With a little prep and measuring, this large group Halloween costume could be the real money winner this season.

Octomom Halloween Costume
Nadya Suleman has long black hair, so purchase a cheap wig. Wear the hair straight or pulled back in a ponytail. Octomom has pale skin with darker makeup around the eyes. Then there are the lips. Full bright red lips; paint them on with makeup or purchase a cheap wax pair for an even funnier Octomom look.

For Halloween feel free to fill out the shirt appropriately for a new mother of eight babies. Octomom is rather well endowed, but not overly sexy. Suleman wears darker colors with floral patterns. Don't forget the giant glam sunglasses. Think Angelina Jolie... with no money.

Octomom Baby Halloween Costume
For the Octomom baby costumes gather eight large adults, the bigger the belly the better. Faces and heads will be completely covered by the costume, so no fear of being recognized with your belly out.

Measure each group member from just below the elbow, over the head to the middle of the back. Allow for about a foot of extra fabric for a very loose costume fit up top. Have the person stand with arms folded on chest loosely and measure all the way around. Finally, measure slightly lower than the folded arms, just around the chest. Get a pair of old jeans that still fit from each group member for the bottom half of the Octomom baby costume.

Draw an outline of a baby body, either wearing a onesie sleeper or just a diaper. Leave the head off the baby drawing. Enlarge the drawing to an average size large enough to cover most of the length on the jeans of the group members. Adjustments can be made later for taller/shorter group members.

Take measurements for top of the Halloween costumes to the fabric store. Purchase lengths of the cheapest material in pastel baby colors; light blue, pink or yellow. Fabric should be thick enough to hide the person inside, but sheer enough to see though. Purchase wide band elastic using the chest measurements added together. Purchase light tan material to make the baby bodies, or just use white for a onesie cover up. Purchase some fluffy filler for stuffing the baby body.

Assemble the Halloween Octomom baby costume. From the enlarged picture, cut the body pattern out of the fabric (2 per costume) and sew the two sides together. Stuff the body with the filler for 3-D effect. Sew the neckline of the costume shut completely. Attach each baby body to the front of each pair of jeans for each group member.

Cut the bonnet material to size for each costume group member (have the members present for best fit). Place middle of material on the person's head and let hang on both sides. Make sure there is extra length and width to fit arms inside of bonnet. Sew sides and top closed, round edges at the top for a more finished look. Gather the bottom and stitch elastic all the way around the bottom. It should look like a giant sack when done.

The final group costume fitting should leave each Octomom baby with a body coming up to the waist, and bonnet coming down to the mid chest area (with arms pulled up inside). Add some filler to the base of the bonnet to make it puffier looking. There should be a 'blank slate' for a face, the belly of each costumed member.

Draw a cute baby face with Halloween makeup on the belly of each group member. Here is a quick video for an example. Use the belly button as the mouth or even as the base of a pacifier. Draw on paper first if you aren't comfortable jumping right in with makeup on a friend's belly. This is the most fun part of assembling the group Halloween costume. Remember, you don't need to be a cosmetologist. Have fun with the Halloween makeup and vary the baby faces.

Add some baby accessories like bottles, pacifiers and rattles and your Octomom and babies group Halloween costume is complete. For a small investment, this is a unique costume for any fun group.
