According to the American Psychiatric Association, PTSD does not only affect people who were engaged in conflict. This can also happen if you experienced or witnessed something horrible like murder, an accident, rape, torture, a natural disaster or abuse.
There are different ways to treat PTSD and group hypnosis is just one of the options. According to the National Center for PTSD, you have to get treatment as soon as possible because if you don't, things could get worse for the patient in the future
What happens during group hypnosis? Basically, the specialist will try to treat the patient by letting the person let go of the traumatic event. It doesn't matter if the person saw action in Iraq or was abused as a child. The important thing they have to understand is that the ordeal is over.
This is done by talking first to the patient to understand what happened and then figure out certain keywords that will be used in the session. This will be implanted into their subconscious once they are in a relaxed state otherwise this will not work.
Implanting is usually done towards the end of the session which could take 30 minutes to an hour. When it is all over, the patients will wake up and might even remember what happened while they are in this state.
Loved ones and the person who partipated in group hypnosis should understand that it will take time to let go off the past. They will have to attend several group hypnsis sessions over the next few months before they can see any improvement and learn to live a normal life again.
Group hypnosis is nothing new because it has been around since the early 1900's. The first of this was called autogenic training and this was a mthord developed by J.H. Schultz, a German psychiatrist and neurologist, who combined meditation and hypnosis to treat patient with various physchological problems.
The doctor developed his method by following the works of Oskar Voght at the Berlin Institute some 30 years before and today, it is also being used to treat people who are suffering from other anxiety disorders.
So if you or someone you know is suffering in their head, you are not alone and group hypnosis might be the help that you need badly.
