Group: Martha Coakley Supports Partial-birth Abortion, Taxpayer Money for Abortion, and Opposes Parental Consent Laws on Abortion

Marc Schenker
Martha Coakley, the Democrat candidate for Massachusetts' vacant senate seat, supports partial-birth abortion, using taxpayer money for abortion, and even opposes parent consent laws on abortion. This, at least, according to the group Mass Citizens for Life who've been hard at work this past Sunday in distributing fliers to churches all across Massachusetts, warning Catholics of Coakley's disreputable, anti-life stand on partial-birth abortion, the use of taxpayer money for abortion, and shocking opposition to parental consent laws.

While Massachusetts is a very blue state with registered Democrats outnumbering registered Republicans by 3-to-1, it is also a heavily Catholic state (hmmmm...almost sounds like...an...oxymoron, doesn't it?), and this is where the rub lies. If Coakley's undeniably anti-life record becomes known to a broader number of Catholics-fingers crossed that the aforementioned group succeeded in getting said fliers passed out to as many churches as possible-it could well sway some Democrat-voting Catholics to come over to Scott Brown's side, as he's more pro-life than Coakley.

The Mass Citizens for Life flier handily explains the stark differences in Brown's pro-life stance versus Coakley's constant support for a Culture of Death, as in always choosing abortion over preserving the life of the unborn. Now, like with all good, little Democrats, Coakley's recollection of her past stances-perhaps due to pressure from groups like Mass Citizens for Life bringing her anti-life record to light in the last couple of days-always seems to flip-flop and begin to use denial more than she really ought to. Maybe fellow Massachusetts Democrat John "Flip-Flop" Kerry is related to her?

It never ceases to startle me how many Democrats resort to outright, shameless deception when an election draws near, and they realize their deeply unpopular beliefs contrast with what many Americans actually believe. Take Coakley's stance on partial-birth abortion, just for one.

Realizing that supporting partial-birth abortion-in which a defenseless, helpless, little baby has scissors forced into its tiny head to enable the suctioning out of its skull contents via a catheter-may not go over well with Massachusetts Catholics, Coakley's begun denying her support of that barbarous procedure. However, an op-ed she wrote in 2007 for the Patriot Ledger makes clear just her support for said barbarous procedure.

Likewise, on to the issue of misusing hard-worked for, taxpayer money for abortions, Coakley-sensing that, oh my God, she could well lose taking such an unpopular stand!-has begun denying her earlier position in support of it! By late December 2009, Coakley had deviously shifted her position to supporting a version of the Senate healthcare bill that restricted abortion, but only earlier in the same month, she actually was on the record as opposing a bill with abortion restrictions! Flip-Flopper Coakley, indeed!!

Probably the most disturbing of Coakley's indisputable positions as outlined by Mass Citizens for Life is her opposition to parental consent laws on abortion. It's particularly stunning that this is Coakley's stance because she used to be a district attorney, a job usually involving a committed loyalty to upholding state laws! However, according to the Boston Globe, before she joined the DA's office, she actually volunteered her time as a private lawyer to expressly help minor girls get court orders to specifically circumvent their parents' refusals! That's against the law, yet that didn't discourage the ideological Coakley from doing so anyway. Still, in the recent debate with Brown, Coakley lied again by denying it!

I opine that with all the ethical baggage that Coakley carries on her like the weight of the world on her shoulders, Massachusetts voters ought to completely get a clue and not vote for her. Not only does she have a consistent record supporting an anti-life stand, she also lies about it come election time for political gain! She also doesn't care about protecting toddlers who are raped with hot, curling irons. Even Democrats should have moral gripes with a woman who is this debauched when it comes to her values system.

cont: to perform a dangerous procedure on your child without your knowledge or permission? If girls under the age of 18 can make these decisions on their own without parental guidance, then WHY do we have an age where we become an adult and fully responsible? Gosh, why not just let your children do whatever they want? Grow up. See the real issues instead of foaming at the mouth at the very thought someone might be trying to steal your right to be irresponsible! Decide if you want politicians deciding your rights over your child...if and when you may ever decide to have any. Marc, good article and reporting the facts never makes a person popular. Nolan...such a "liberal" should have no problem with someone posing nude! Why even bring it up? For me, I would much rather see a human body in it's natural form than watch another human murder a helpless child. Call me silly.

Fred, Annie, Nolan....do you ever wonder why your only response to something you disagree with is viral and ugly? Is this because you truly have no intelligent argument to support what you profess to believe in so strongly? Yes, women have been getting abortions since the beginning of time, and the secret is now out. So, the fear of losing your "right" (where you think this right came from in a Universe built off the continuance of life I don't know)- is ridiculous. Does this mean we who call ourselves "civilized" must condone the murder of a viable child/fetus when it is so close to birth? Should this not have been taken care of before with one of your "civilized" methods? Pffffttt! Why not just save some money and use the damn coat hanger method? So much easier than keeping your legs crossed or making a decision in a few months instead of nine! As to children, it is illegal to perform needed surgery on a minor child without parents permission. Why then should a doctor be allowed to p

That was a fantastic article. I have only read two of yours thus far and you have a true gift at reporting. Ugh partial birth abortion--is there anything more evil than that? Abortion is bad enough at any stage but how can anyone say a baby at that stage doesn't feel pain? It's just sad. I understand some believe it is a woman's right but it's hard to fathom how partial birth abortion can be a woman's right. She could choose birth control (true doesn't always work), condoms (same thing), remaining abstinent (yeah right but still, an option), and even early pregnancy abortion before the baby's nervous system has formed and can feel the pain from being killed. Why wait until the baby could practically if not live on its own before aborting it? There's a 6-9 month period there for crying out loud. I understand even if it isn't my personal decision in the case of moms being sick and their lives being in jeopardy but to do that just to do it? How is it justifiable? Not asking for

Human life trumps all other issues, because without life, we have NO other RIGHTS.

Legislators who don't support the right to life don't recognize the value of human life. I want those I elect to acknowledge our value, and acknowledge that human life is not theirs to legislate away. It's GOD given, and requires their protection from the day of conception until the day we die.

    VOTE SCOTT BROWN FOR SENATE!

Sounds to me, Marc, like you expected Democrats / liberals to be a bit more high-minded than conservatives: "It never ceases to startle me how many Democrats resort to outright, shameless deception when an election draws near..." I've never known any politician to be totally honest during elections and the most blatant liars of late have been Republicans (remember the 'Bridge to Nowwhere', death panels, the North Carolina Dole senate race?). To be fair, most (if not all) politicians tend to minimize their unpopular stances and enhance their more politically popular platforms. It is the politician's way, regardless of their particular ideologies. But you make a great point in this article that even in a traditional blue state, Coakley will have a problem with her abortion views (although how people tend to judge any politician -- Rep, Dem, or Indy -- by one or two issues when they will be voting on thousands is what truly amazes me). Always refer to Carlin's Law: People are stupid

Did the Mass Citizens for Life include that picture of Coakley's opponent, Republican Scott Brown, who posed nude for a magazine centerfold? That would have been really an eye-opener after Sunday Mass! Just want to keep it "Fair and Balanced".

  • JerseyNana1/18/2010

Glad I don't live in MA, but if I did, I'd never vote for someone who is pro abortion!

  • Annie1/18/2010

Abortion is a woman's right!!! so get over it.
Maybe the ProBirth crowd can try to save all the former fetuses that have no homes, food, clothing or health care, their time would be better spent that way.

When does it become ignorant to state the facts.

  • Fred1/18/2010

wow. Thanks for getting the ignorance out. Do you see yourself as a journalist or right wing nut job editorial writer? My guess is the latter based on your use of the english language.
