Group X - Taking Over the World One Flash Video at a Time

Merz
If you like surfing the net for flash cartoons and videos, there is a good chance you might have heard of the band Group X. Their songs like Bang Bang Bang and Schfifty-five have become legend amongst flash video artists and admirers alike. But just who is Group X, and what makes their songs so flash video friendly.

Group X, also known as Group X: Arabian Rap Sensations, is a rock and rap band. They sing in a contorted and heavily accented form of English meant to support their claim that they hail from the town of Cramshananteen in Saudi Arabia. Lyrically, much of their music asserts an antagonistic position on the United States and all of the "E-D-ots" who call the place home.

The bands members are known by aliases, and include Hashmeer Shashmeer, the group's "talker" or "shouter, Blade, or DJ Pattiecake, on "bass patrol" and the whistle, and Rex, or DJ Rocksolid, who is super good at "hitting shaith".

Though the band is not quick to reveal their true identities to fans, and the fans seem to like it that way, it is known that the band hails from Marietta, Georgia, and they have developed quite a following in and around Atlanta. They make occasional live appearances, often on the campus of Georgia Tech at an on-campus venue called Under the Couch.

If their speaking is garbled, their writing is virtually unreadable to all but the most devoted of fans. The band's website at http://www.groupxarab.com/ is full of misspelled words, written to be read the way that the band member's speak. For example, "quaick" is quick.

Even if you do not agree with their satirical views on the U.S. (and if you are a hard-core "America is the best country in the world and every one else should kiss our boots" kind of patriot, you will probably find most of Group X's site and music fairly offensive), you should check out the site, and some of their popular flash videos on www.albinoblacksheep.com, which is a popular YouTube alternative for videos and flash animations, simply for the ingenuity of it alone. The band offers some comic genius that is different than anything else out there.

Albino Black Sheep has finally wised up and given Group X their due with their own special folder on the site. The music of this Arabian group has inspired ten flash films just on Albino Black Sheep alone. That's pretty impressive for a virtually unknown group.

So who is Group X?

Just a little trio from Cramshananteen, trying to take over the world.
