Grove Park Inn and Spa Review in Asheville, North Carolina

Logan McCall
Resting high atop the Sunset Hills residential area of Asheville, North Carolina is expansive Grove Park Inn and Spa, an impressive feat of architecture featuring stacked boulders topped with a red shingle roof. Although they both cater to particularly wealthy guests, Grove Park Inn and Spa does not seem to have anything to prove, unlike the neurotically opulent Biltmore estate nearby. Built in 1913 as a heath resort, the Grove Park Inn was designed and furnished in the tradition of Arts and Crafts movement making this building feel right at home amongst the Appalachian foothills.

Lodging

Guests of the Grove Park Inn have a number of choices of accommodations to choose from ranging from a basic room to lodging in serious luxury in one the inn's many themed suites. There are 512 rooms in the famous Grove Park Inn, and the resort has hosted famous figures ranging from presidents and dignitaries to Hollywood icons.

Spa

The 40,000 square foot spa is the jewel of Grove Park Inn, an aesthetically stunning facility that is difficult to put into words, with exposed stone interiors that look like some sort of underground cavern paradise that should be reserved for creatures more deserving than man. Primary treatment services include massages, facials, manicures, pedicures and full body treatments. Purchase of a treatment includes day long access to the spa's before and after facilities, such as mineral pools, massage pools, steam rooms, sauna, outdoor hot tub and more. Treatments start at $150, and special prices are regularly listed on the inn's website and email offerings.

Dining and Entertainment

Aside from the spa and lodging, the Grove Park Inn and Spa has a number of other amenities. Guests of the hotel and day tourists alike are encouraged to enjoy the inn's handful of restaurants and many shops, while the eighteen hole Donald Ross golf course provides a challenging but playable opportunity for outdoor recreation at Grove Park Inn. The inn's Horizon restaurant has garnered reviews as a top restaurant by Food and Wine, while the Sunset Terrace Chophouse delivers great cuts of steak. The Spa Cafe has healthy fare and a live juice bar while the piano bar at Elaine's offers a spot for guests to let their hair down.

The Grove Park Inn and Spa is located at 290 Macon Avenue in Asheville, North Carolina. The inn can be reached via telephone at (800)438-5800 and further information can be found at the Grove Park Inn's website located at Groveparkinn.com.

It looks great, and expensive too. Is the place haunted?
