For Small Start-ups, Spend Smart to Make Your Business Grow

Joe Grobin
As a small business owner or someone who may be just starting up your own business, the thought of spending money is probably something you would prefer not to think about. In fact, money is probably so tight right now, thinking about spending may hurt.

However, if you want your business to grow, it is a good idea to take a look at how you are spending your money so that you can reduce your costs.

Many people have the misconception that in order to start a business, you need to have all sorts of supplies and the right equipment in order to succeed.

The truth is, however, that if your business is going to succeed, it will succeed because you have the right product and the right business plan that will launch your company and make it go far.

So, the equipment you have to eek out your business in its first few years is inconsequential if you are a good business person.

This is why it may be a good idea to consider purchasing business equipment on eBay. Buying on eBay allows you to zero in on deals you may not normally encounter unless you were buying in bulk - and for most small business owners, buying in bulk is not really an option at this point.

If you are considering doing this, you simply go to www.ebaybusiness.com/catalog where you can then register your business. In order to buy, you must register.

Once you register, you will receive an eBay User's guide and free business consulting that you can customize to fit your personal needs.

In addition to saving your business money on office equipment, you can also sell your old office equipment on eBay and pretty much come full circle.

Remember, when you are just starting up, it is easy to be self-defeating and think you need all the pretty, new appliances to be able to compete with larger companies selling a similar product to yours. Thinking this way will not only sabotage your business, but you will end up wasting money that could be better spent in other areas of your business.

If eBay is not for you, there are several other low-cost options to getting your business going. Finding deals on things like computers or printers is easy considering you don't need anything fancy to get you going.

As far as business cards or spending money on incidentals such as business cards or fancy letterhead, doing everything yourself on a personal computer saves you money in the beginning.

Remember, until you have the cash flow to afford purchasing perks such as customized labels and other things, it is best to just do it yourself.

  • Buy office supplies on eBay to save money
  • Buying on eBay is a smart route for small business owners to take
  • You can find deals on eBay without having to buy in bulk

I've been an Ebay member since 1998. I can't tell you how many times I've purchased items on Ebay and have been sorely disappointed. Don't misunderstand, I greatly enjoyed your article and found it to be a good read. But one thing to keep in mind is that the shipping charges on Ebay can vary greatly from seller to seller, for one thing. Money that you've 'saved' over shopping retail can be lost in a flash with inflated shipping charges. Yes, you can get some very good buys overall on Ebay, but again, buyer beware, know exactly what you're buying, read the listing completely at least twice, compare shipping charges, and see what recourse, if any, you have for returns. Best of luck to all small business owners; you're the backbone of the American dream!
