As an adult, you would think that you would eventually grow up. Ever since we where young, we continue to do what we want and eat what we want. On occasion our parents would threaten us or punish us to make sure we ate our entire meal. Usually we would leave the veggies or even have the dog finish that section of carrots and string beans.
So moving forward to our adult years, we still do the same, only that we don't order the veggies and instead substitute greasy potato chips and french fries. Yes, they are vegetables, however you can do better. Or should I ask do you want to do better?
It seems to be the norm, that many avoid vegetables like the plague. I am not sure why, but it must stem from the childhood, that veggies were foul weeds as Newman from Seinfield would suggest. Is it because, of the way our parents prepared it, or should I say over prepared it that left an indelible mark of untasty food for years to come?
Creating undelicous food could be the reason why a seven year old may not like the healthiest part of the meal. As an adult, you know better. You eat to live, not live to eat, so my suggestion is that your meals should be as healthy as possible. That should include the vegetable part of the plate.
It will take some effort to get into the good habit of eating stuff that is good for you. Just open up any healthy lifestyle cookbook or fitness magazine, and you will eventually find a recipe(s) that you will like. Variety is the spice of life. It may take a couple of weeks, but you will eventually find combinations that you will enjoy.
Now that you are eating your vegetables. Keep in mind that our farms create an abundance of food for all of us. At the same time this bounty has diluted the potency of any enzymes, antioxidants, phytonutrients, and prebiotics once found in our foods from 50 years back. Unlike the foods being harvest from around the world that come from the far ends of the Earth, where that produce has more TLC.
Understanding the science and benefits of the best foods from around the world, you might want to travel to source Superfoods such as Acai Berry, Goji Berry, Camu-Camu, Chia Seed, Maca, and other exotic ingredients that have been unadulterated and polluted. Like the most of us, the time to source these types of ingredients might get in the way of jobs.
The next best thing that many people do, to get these high quality ingredients into their diets is to go to different specially health food stores. They create smoothies with them, some with tasty success and some combinations not so yummy. However, that too can be time consuming and costly. There is a balance you need to work with, especially when a combination you make ends up down the sink.
To make it more convenient and get exotic food into your body, many people have turned to Shakeology, a unique ultra premium shake that is their healthiest meal of the day including me. While knowing it has the best ingredients, it also tastes awesome, so I look forward to my health in a glass. It really is Nutrition Simplified.
I suggest consulting with your healthcare team, which may include a registered dietician to get you started. Just a side note, the upcoming healthcare reform is going to burden the system, and you want to do your best to avoid any avoidable complications. So eat right and get your exercise!
