Growing Your AVON Business: Helpful Ideas for Prospecting!

Tabitha Harwell
It's the holidays which means it's the busiest time of year for AVON representatives! It's also the best time to start thinking about Leadership!! Leadership is the next big step up from a representative, you will still be a representative but you will also be coaching new representatives under you.

Look at your current customers!

Your best customer may be your best recruit! Think about it - your best costumer already knows what wonderful products AVON offers, they are familiar with ordering, they know the books, they have sent you referrals and they continuously order from you! Approach your customer or customers with the opportunity to make some extra money, especially with the holidays coming up. Let your possible recruit know what fabulous incentives are going on right now, how they can make some money and have fun doing it!

Talk to people!

When you were out looking for customers did you think about looking for recruits? Probably not, you were probably more focused on growing your business. While your out handing catalogs to new customers put the word in their ear that your looking for a few great people to join your team! Some great meeting places are parks, malls, coffee shops, grocery stores, the school office, the bank, movie stores or any place that you visit on a regular or semi-regular basis.

Have an open house!

Invite everyone that you know over to your house for a little show and tell of new AVON products. While they are there set up a little presentation on your journey through AVON and let them see how they can make money like you are. Some representatives like to show their paychecks, some like to show their district numbers. Find a way that works best for you and if you can't think of a way to do a presentation then talk with your upline!

Set up a booth!

Craft fairs are great ways to find prospects and new customers. Call around to local schools, clubs, convention centers or get in touch with other people you know who do booth fairs. Find out when they are and get the pricing. Sometimes this can get expensive to do so you will always want to weigh your profit versus upfront costs. When setting up a booth you want to get creative. Adding height is always a great way to attract customers from a distance so set up a tall, colorful sign to display your name. You'll want to bring products with you to show and let the customers try. You don't necessarily have to have products to sell but chances are you'll come across someone who is a current customer of AVON or who wants to try something from the line. In this case the trial size skin care line products do very well, lipglosses, mascaras, SSS, hand cream and soaps sell really well at trade shows. You can also do a raffle!

Raffle time!

The best thing to do if you have a booth is hold a raffle. Set your raffle up to draw names every hour or every two hours. You'll want to have something good to raffle off such as a trial size skin care demo, eyeshadow pack or jewelry. Have a contact sheet for the customer to fill out and make sure you get name, number, address, email and ask them on the card if they are interested in selling AVON so you can keep them as a contact and possible recruit. Let the crowd know when you are holding the raffle and tell them they must be present to win - trust me it draws a huge crowd! Once the winner is picked, empty all the other registrants into a bag so you can call them with new AVON news. Keep the raffle going - customers love it!

Host a trade show!

Talk with other home based businesses and see if they want to get together to host a trade show. This will take some work to put together but it can be a huge success. You can either set this up at a home or a small center type building (if you call your local city hall they can refer you to a small city center) this will keep your cost down. The next step would be to figure price and area set up. You need to have a booth charge and you will want to set up your area so that there is adequate space between each booth, this also allows you to determine how many booths you can have. The third step is to set the rules and guidelines. You will want each booth to invite a certain amount of people (such as 25) to come to the show. These people are your future customers and prospects. The final step is to get in touch with other vendors (Scentsy, Pampered Chef, Silpada, etc) and ask them if they want to participate. Be sure not to have two competing vendors such as AVON and Mary Kay, Scentsy and Home Interiors, etc. Once you have everything in place you may want to post flyers around your town to let outsiders know what you are having. Do not charge an entry fee.

Make a game out of it!

It is fun to prospect. Each day or week make a list of people you will approach and put a silly twist on it such as a lady in a red dress, a woman walking a dog, a man who is trying on cologne, a college student carrying a purple purse. Have fun and think positive!

AVON is such a great company to work with! The products are amazing, the support is awesome but above all it's a fun career! Take the time to talk with people about the opportunity it can make all the difference!
