Growing Indoor Miniature Roses: Planting and Care

Shannon Frye
There are many different types of roses that you can purchase and keep indoors. I would always suggest with sticking to miniature roses because you don't want a huge rose bush taking over your entire home. Growing roses indoors adds a little bit of color and live to any home, condo or apartment. It's a way of having your own little garden, a piece of the outdoors inside of your home. Roses are beautiful and they are perfect, despite their thorns. You can purchase many different types of miniature roses from your local greenery.

If you purchase a type of rose which climbs, you will need to build some sort of extention that the rose can climb up so that it does not tip and hang over to the side. The best thing to do is avoid miniature roses that climb.

You will want to purchase a pot which is large enough to house the miniature rose. Make sure that this pot will be big enough to last long enough to keep the miniature rose plant alive. You want to allow room for the roots to expand and grow. You will also want to make sure that the pot has holes in the bottom for water to drain out of the holes. You will need to place something under the miniature rose plant so that water doesn't leak all over the floor.

When you get the plant home with you, you're going to have to gently rock the plant back and forth to break it lose from the container. You can squeeze the bottom of the container to break the dirt free from all sides. Gently tip the container to one side and pull out the plant. Be careful that you do not damage or break any of the roots from the miniature rose plant.

Regular roses are hard to keep alive at times because bugs get on them and destroy them. Indoor rose plants can also have the same problem as well. To give your plant a little extra strength you can supply it with some type of fertilizer when you transport the plant. Make sure to water the plant when the dirt starts to become dry and don't forget about your miniature rose plant. These roses come in all different colors and all different sizes and you want to make sure that you purchase one that will stay small. If you end up with a large rose plant you are not going to be able to keep it indoors. You can give this plant to a friend or neighbor who can plant it outdoors where it belongs. Miniature rose plants are great to keep indoors.

My rose plant seed won't spout! I'm so mad, I think that rose plants are realy hard to grow.I would try something different like a sunflower, those ones are realy easy to grow.

I can never get the damn things to grow indoors. I gave one to my mother, and she did well with it. I like to keep them outdoors and have a fantastic outdoor mini rose bed. Thanks for the article, though!
