Growing Oregano in Your Houston, Texas Garden

Oregano is a terrific plant for your Houston, Texas garden. The herb itself can be used fresh or dried to flavor many dishes, including Italian cuisine, salads, sauces and soups. It will also bloom with pretty pink, white and purple flowers from summer through fall in your Houston, Texas garden. Plant Oregano in full to partial sun, where it can grow to heights of up to three feet. Oregano is a great choice for kitchen gardens, and also looks pretty in a mixed border. Expect heights of up to 18 inches from this herb, which will grow best in moist but not wet soil.

Its leaves are terrific for flavoring egg and cheese dishes, as well as sauces and vegetables. This hardy perennial is one of the most flavorful Oregano varieties you can grow, and is the perfect choice for your kitchen garden. It will do best in well-drained soil.

Italian. Italian Oregano does best when planted in full sun in your Houston, Texas garden. It is very drought tolerant, making it a great choice for Xeriscaping. It will grow to be about three feet tall, and blooms with white and pink flowers from summer through early fall. This Oregano is very fragrant, and is a great addition to mixed borders or your Houston, Texas container garden. Use this herb to flavor meat dishes, sauces and soups.
