Their are so many creative ways to grow your own food at home even if it is freezing outside. You can set up a little garden almost anywhere in your home, near a window is a great place. You can even supplement it with your own light source. Their are even a few kits out that come with a light seeds even dirt all you do is plug it in and watch your food grow.
The important aspect of growing your own food to me is that you can omit the chemicals and pesticides. Hey you can omit the genetically altered seeds and only grow heirloom seeds if you prefer. I would often grow IBH tomatoes until I found out that they had a dog hair gene bred into them to prevent freezing of the fruit.
What you feed your plants is pretty important, certainly to sustain growth healthy growth you will want to feed your plants something loaded with minerals. Because they are the building blocks of the universe. All of the minerals that comprise everything on earth are in our oceans. In fact the distribution, salinity and concentration of minerals in the ocean are quite similar to that of our own blood. Makes you think a little doesn't it.
I like to use seaweed to feed my plants. It gives them a deep green color and sea weed has all of the trace minerals that a plant or a human would require. You can purchase seaweed from your local growing store. I have even seen it at popular chain stores around the USA. Its very inexpensive and plants love it. It can be purchased in powder or liquid form. You can read the label for suggested use depending on what type of plants you are going to grow.
To me the fastest easiest way to grow food in your home is to grow sprouts. You can sprout and eat almost any seed. Some health food stores offer sprouting mixes that are quite good and very satisfying. Sprouts are a great way to get whole fresh food into your diet. Besides they have more protein per pound that most meat. Sprouts do not have the over all social implications of eating beef or chicken. They also do not have the chemical content that many of our foods have today.
Sprouts are an inexpensive way to get some real nutrition into your diet. Try it some time you will look and feel better in no time, if you grow and eat sprouts as much as possible. What a great way to start loosing weight, replace some of your processed food with sprouts it that easy.
