Ginger- this is cooked as an ingredient in many dishes and foods. The juice from aged ginger roots are extremely flavorful and are used in alot of Asian cuisine. Ginger has a very unique smell and has been used for centuries for various things including medicinal cures. Ginger is hailed as a cure for the common cold, if one tsp of grated ginger is added to hot sweetened water it helps rid colds. It has also shown effective in treating nausea, and has long been used to treat inflammation. Studies have also shown it may help reduce cholesterol and prevent blood clotting. There are possible interactions with ginger its not recommended to take it with blood thinning medications. The flower its self is pink and white buds that form into a beautiful yellow flower, and they strive in warm climates. From this multi-tasking herb we get our ginger brandy, ginger ale, and gingerbread and thats just to name a few.
Cinnamon- This has been used for centuries as a medicine. Cinnamon has a wide variety of uses and is my personal favorite. There is new evidence to suggest that Cinnamon can help regulate blood sugar therefore helping diabetes patients. The Chinese believe that Cinnamon helps with aging and will improve the complexion, Its also was used as a seditive and tranquilizer. Is widley known for its calming effect. We use cinnamon for cooking, as a sent in perfumes and candles, and for medicinal property's. Its been known to be a cure all for centuries. This plant is not grown much in the US its a hot weather plant to be grown in very warm climates. But it is sold in all supermarkets. So instead of an apple a day, take a Cinnamon pill a day and keep the doctor away.
Garlic- Many cultures use this stinky but tasty herbs as a medicine. It was worshiped by Egyptians, and I can see why I love it myself. Garlic is most famous for warding off vampires and evil. It is hailed as a great cold remedy, good for getting rid of bacteria, lowering cholesterol, and recent studies show garlic during pregnancy can reduce the risk of pre-clampsia. It also makes a great compliment to most food. Most garlic is grown in California, but it can be grown in most regions I live in WV and have a garlic patch. Research is ongoing for the great healing property's of garlic. I have a feeling we will hear more and more great things about this tasty herb.
These three are my favorite and through my research I have learned that alot of people totally believe in the healing property's of natural herbs. Believe me they are alot cheaper than prescription drugs. And maybe one day after leaving the doctor we won't be rushing to the drug store, we will find what we need in our own back yard.
