Growing Thyme in Your Houston, Texas Garden

Thyme is a perennial herb that will grow very well in your Houston, Texas garden. You can use its pretty gray-green leaves both fresh and dried for seasoning, and its lilac, pink and white flowers will brighten up your garden. Most varieties of Thyme do best in full sun, and prefer soil with good drainage. These hardy perennials survive the Houston, Texas winter without any problems, and will bloom in the spring and summer in your garden. Thyme is a great choice for your mixed borders, and also does very well in containers. This is a good herb for your Houston, Texas kitchen garden. If you would like to try growing Thyme in your own garden, try planting some of the varieties below.

Lemon Thyme. If you are looking for an herb that can be used in chicken and fish dishes, try planting this Thyme in your Houston, Texas garden. It has pretty green leaves edged in white, and its lilac flowers will bloom all summer. Lemon Thyme is great to use as a groundcover, and is also a good choice for rock gardens. Porlock. Plant this Thyme in full sun or partial shade in your Houston, Texas garden, where it will bloom all summer with pink and lilac flowers. Caraway. Named for its lovely caraway scent, this herb makes a terrific groundcover. You can use its leaves to flavor meat dishes, or add them to homemade breads. Caraway Thyme is very fast growing, and does best when planted in full sun. It has lovely pink flowers that will bloom from late spring through the summer in your Houston, Texas garden, and is a good choice for spots that you need to fill in quickly. It will grow to be about four inches tall.
