GT Express 101 Review

After seeing a late night TV infomercial, I ordered the GT Express 101 from GT Express. This commercial, that ran nearly 30 minutes, showed people effortlessly cooking foods in their "Dual Chamber" cooking machine that looked so good, it prompted a midnight run to the refrigerator for a midnight snack.

The first problem with this device, happened when I called their toll free order line to place my order. The asking price on the commercial was for $19.95 plus shipping and handling. I was advised by the person taking my order that the cost of the unit was $19.95 Each, based on the purchase of 2 units, for a total of $39.90. I went ahead and placed the order feeling that this was a great item, that I would be able to use for years to come. Then they advised me they would charge to my credit card, the $39.90 plus the shipping and handling charges. My fault, I did not ask the total of shipping charges, but I was amazed to learn that the shipping and handling charges were 33.85 for shipment of both units. I was in shock to learn the shipping charges were nearly the same cost as units themselves. By the time everything was said and done, the total for these 2 units was nearly $75.00. My only thought here is that they are making their money on the shipping and handling charges. I did a little bit of checking, and according to UPS http://www.ups.com Based on their shipping weight, posted on the box, the combined weight of the GT Express 101 was just a little bit under 8 pounds. Entering this weight into the UPS rate system, shipping from New York City, to Los Angeles, CA would have been $15.45. Another net profit for the company of $18.40 just for their handling charges.

Finally, about 5 weeks later, the GT Express 101 was delivered to by door by the delivery man in a brown uniform. I was excited, and looking forward to the fun of easily cooking all the great items they showed on their commercial. Here's where problem number 2 was found. The commercial claims you can cook all these great meals in less than 7 minutes. This is based only on the cooking time, and not the time it takes to prepare the ingredients to make the dishes. Upon inspection of the unit that I received, I was amazed to find that the quality of this product was so poor, that the unit, although it does what they said it would do, albeit much slower than they claim, made the unit almost completely worthless. The commercial claimed that the unit was made with a durable non-stick coating that would allow you to cook without having to add fat or oil making your foods much healthier. The coating that was on both units that I received was very thin and was so poorly applied, that even using the special spatula that was included with the unit, the coating was severely scratched the very first use. Now, every time the unit is used, food sticks and burns so badly that clean-up is a total nightmare.

I have learned a big lesson from this purchase, if it looks great on TV, and they have to spend big money to shoot a 30 minute commercial for the product, the product is probably of such poor quality that the company cannot sell it at your normal brick and mortar store. If you are reading this, trying to decide if you want to order this product, my only recommendation is DON'T. This product, advertised as a kitchen wonder, in my opinion is only more kitchen trash that they charge way too much for and will only be sitting there collecting dust after a couple of uses.
