The Academy Awards
The Academy Awards have made a number of advances since the beginnings at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel in 1929. The first awards, fifteen in all, were not the sealed-envelope event that we've come to know since the 1940s. The first recipients knew of the honor for months prior to the event.
The 82nd Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars, will be awarded on March 7th, 2010 at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood. The award presentation will be televised live on the ABC Television Network. The hosts for the 2010 Oscars will be Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin. This will be Steve Martin's 3rd time hosting the event and Baldwin's first.
The Golden Globe Awards
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association's annual Golden Globe Awards began in the 1940s with a group of journalists seeking to cover all aspects of the entertainment industry while providing honors to those deserving and monetary aid to entertainment related charities, programs and scholarship funding. Today, the Golden Globes award achievement in 25 categories. 14 awards are presented annually in film with another 11 presented in television.
The 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards will be aired live on NBC for the first time in 2010. The award presentation will be held, and broadcast, on Jaruary 17, 2010 from 5-8pm PST and 8-11pm EST at The Beverly Hilton. For the first time in 15 years, the stage will be graced by a host, standup comedian Ricky Gervais
Screen Actor Guild (SAG) Awards
The Screen Actor Guild Awards began in 1995 as a way to honor and award performers by a "judging" of their peers. With the final winners in each category being voted upon by the entire SAG memberships, the awards are considered to be very high honors for the performers. Annual awards are given in five film categories and 11 television categories.
The 16th Annual SAG Awards will be aired live on January 23rd 2010, 8pm EST, on TNT and TBS television networks from the Los Angeles Shrine Exposition Center. The coveted Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented in 2010 to Betty White.
Primetime Emmy Awards
The first Emmy Awards were held in 1949, and were devoted to Los Angelos programming. Over the years, the Emmy Awards have risen to the challenge of recognizing the changing world of television to become one of the highest honors in the industry.
The 62nd Primetime Emmy® Awards will be held on Sunday, August 29, 2010, 8-11pm EST on NBC Television Network. Nominations will be announced on Thursday, July 8, 2010. The August presentation will be earlier in the year than recent years to avoid conflicts with the September NFL football scheduling.
Candice Bergen, Charles Lisanby, Don Pardo, Gene Roddenberry, Tom and Dick Smothers and Bob Stewart are slated to be inducted into the Television Academy's Hall of Fame.
The Grammys
The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences held its first awards ceremony at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in 1957. The Grammy Awards are presented by The Recording Academy based on an artist's technical and artistic excellence rather than on chart topping popularity.
The 52nd annual Grammy Award, "music's biggest night", will be held on January 31, 2010, at the Staples Center. It is to air live on the CBS Television Network.
While there are many other entertainment awards throughout the 2010 calendar year, this guide will keep you up to date on a few of the major ones.
