Guide to Affordable Seattle for a Budget Friendly Vacation

Kimberly Sharpe
I have spent many holidays, weeks, and weekends in Seattle. Many of those trips I took on a tight budget. Seattle is a lovely city for a vacation or getaway. It is also a city that is reasonably priced and can be enjoyed cheaply.

Here is a guide to help anyone maintain a cheap budget in Seattle, Washington.

1) You can rent a car that is an economy model or hybrid for reasonable rental fees or you can drive your own car. Seattle is an easy city to navigate around and you should have no trouble getting from place to place.

You can also use public transportation. There is the King County Metro Community Transit and Sound Transit. Sound Transit also offers commuter rails from Seattle to Everett, Edmonds, and Tacoma. Sound Transit is also offering a light rail from Sea-Tac.

Downtown Seattle also has the historic Monorail. It leaves the center and goes to the Seattle center every ten minutes. It also goes to Westlake Center Mall.

In downtown Seattle the buses are free. You hop on and hop off without paying anything. Just watch for the signs that say "Ride Free Zone". Ride Free ends at seven pm every night.

You can also ride one of the famous Seattle ferries to Bainbridge, Bremerton, or Vashon Island. Both Whidbey Island and Deception Pass State Park are also available via ferry travel.

2) Food in Seattle is never a problem. There are inexpensive restaurants and cafes throughout the city. There is also the old stand by fast food chains that you can use for cheap.

3) Here is a list of budget hotels in Seattle to consider.

a. Sixth Avenue Inn
2000 Sixth Avenue
Seattle, WA
206-441-8300

This is not a bad place to stay on a budget. The rooms are nice and clean. The service is also very friendly.

b. Moore Hotel
1926 Second Ave
Seattle, WA 98101
206-973-2831

This hotel is within walking distance of Pikes Peak Market. It is very affordable and nice. I have stayed here before and I would recommend it.

c. Pensione Nichols
1923 First Ave
Seattle, Wa
206-441-7125

This hotel is a bit different but it is affordable and budget friendly.

4) There are many things to see and do around Seattle. Here is just as sample.

a. Museum Of Flight
b. Hiram M. Chittendon Locks
c. Pike Place Market
e. Washington Park Arboretum
f. Space Needle
g. Klondike Gold Rush National Historic Site
h. Discovery Park
i. Kerry Park
j. Woodland Park Zoo (one of my favorites)
k. The Underground Tour Of Seattle
l. Seattle Aquarium

This is just a small sample of what to see and do around Seattle. Only a couple of the places listed above even have an entrance fee. If they do have an entrance fee such as the Museum of Flight it is well worth the fee because you will easily spend the entire day there. The Zoo is also an all day event. The Seattle Aquarium will take an entire afternoon.

I adore Seattle and its one of my favorite cities in the United States to go for a getaway. It is friendly, unique, and lively. There is always something going on there and there is always something to do that is fun.
