1. Princess Amira
Princess Amira is a beautiful African-American princess created by Uzuri Kid Kidz. What's great about it is that you can order Princess Amira tote bags, party supplies, and stationery. The company is owned by Melissa Perkins, who started the company to fill a void in party planning supplies for multicultural children. I am so glad that she took that step, because they offer a wonderful array of supplies for children of color.. My favorite is Princess Amira. If you have a little princess, make sure to visit the Uzuri Kid Kidz website to find a local retailer or shop online.
2. Princess Briana
Are you looking for great books to read to your daughter that feature an African-American princess? Well, Princess Briana will be a treat for your little girl. Published by Just Like Me Books, this book is a wonderful fairytale for children. Princess Briana is a Black princess who is already inspiring hundreds of young girls, because they are able to see a Black princess in a book. The book has been met with such success that they are in the works of creating a movie based on the book. You can go to Amazon.com or justlikemebooks.com to purchase a copy.
3. Princess Presto
Princess Presto is a part of the Super Readers which are on PBS's Super Why program. She is a pretty, animated, Black princess who has the power of spelling. It's great to watch this show with my children. Not only do they get to see a beautiful Black princess, but she is smart too, and they see how important reading is for everyone. This is definitely something worth watching if you have elementary aged children and under. Even middle school girls may like the show. I enjoy watching it with my kids, and I'm an adult.
4. Disney's First Black Princess
Disney's first Black princess movie is supposed to come out this year, and I am really excited about that. The last time that I checked, her name is Princess Tiana. I have seen scenes from the movie, and it looks like it will be another beautiful Disney movie. Millions of Black girls across the world will be overjoyed to finally see a Disney princess who reflects their culture. They will be able to fully indulge their princess craze alongside other girls, and actually have a princess that they can identify with.
If you have a daughter who loves everything about being a princess, then these princesses will be excellent choices for your child. They will inspire and affirm her, and show her that princesses can range in various colors. I encourage you to help your little girl find her inner princess, and to see it reflected in her home.
