How to Dress Your Teen Modestly
Length
Show your daughter what length is her limit. Have rules for how short shirts and shorts can be. This guideline can be similar to the way that you as a parent dress. If you wear trendy halter tops and minis routinely throughout the week this rule may be harder for you to enforce. Skirts and shorts that hit mid thigh may be good start. Or you may be comfortable with skirts or shorts that hit right above the knee. Find out the school dress code. They may allow x number of inches above the knee for skirts and shorts.
Leggings
When in doubt about how modest an outfit is wear leggings. Leggings are a great layering piece with dresses, skirts, and even shorts in the winter. Long tops can be aired with capri length leggings in the warmer months. Extend the life of dresses that are too short, by wearing them as tunics with leggings. If you are in doubt about the length of anything add leggings, thick tights, or stockings.
Layering
Layering sheer or low cut tops provides instant coverage. Vests can quickly cover an immodest shirt. Layering a cami under a halter top is an easy for your daughter to still be able to wear all of the latest fashions. Adding a lightweight jacket or fitted button down top is a great way to wear tops that may not provide enough coverage for school.
By discussing exactly what is expected from your daughter you can prevent some problems. With some guidance you can show your daughter exactly how dress appropriately for school. Your daughter can wear some of the trendy fashions. These trendy clothes can be worn with leggings, tights, jackets; light tops, or layered with a modest cami for instant coverage. Being willing to work with the fashionable styles, can give you peace of mind that your daughter is not sneaking into unsuitable clothes once she gets to school. This fashion lesson will help your daughter to not fall victim to dressing inappropriately at the workplace or special social occasions
