Our palms and feet do not have oil secreting glands. This makes the skin dry in that region, which further leads to cracked heels. Our skin on the palms is thinner than the skin of our feet. Regular care needs to be taken of our feet as well. We should have at least some consideration for those feet that have to bear our weight the whole day!
Here are some tips and techniques which will rid you of your cracked heels.
Ensure that your skin is well hydrated by drinking lots of water everyday. The skin will be soft and will gain its elasticity. This will prevent cracks.
Clean your feet after coming home. If the feet are left with dirt particles in them, it may lead to an infection.
Dead skin on our feet and heels is hard and tight. To loosen, immerse your feet in warm water with some amount of soap mixed in it. Use a foot scrubber to remove off the dead skin during a bath.
A pumice stone can be used everyday to exfoliate the feet. After exfoliating, dry your feet with a towel. Rub some foot cream or your regular moisturizer on your feet to keep them soft. You can also use a cream specially formulated for cracked heels. It is available over the counter easily. Wear socks so that dust does not stick to your feet and the cracks heal quickly.
Do not grow toe nails and keep them in proper shape. Cut them regularly.
In case of chronic cracked heels, that is, painful cracked heels, try the following. Mix coconut oil with melted paraffin wax. Use this home made cream to massage your cracked heels. Leave it till morning and then wash it off. Follow this routine for 10 days and you will find the cracks healed to a great extent.
Always select the right size for your shoes. Do not wear shoes for impressing somebody even if they are hurting you. Buying shoes in the evening is a good idea since it can determine the appropriate size for our shoes.
Ensure that you wear clean and dry shoes or socks. Also, don't wear shoes when your feet are wet. Drying them well before wearing shoes will help.
If you notice any infection or itching between the toes, consult a skin specialist immediately. It may be a fungal infection which needs medication.
Walking barefoot on the grass improves blood circulation, thus relaxing your feet. You can try acupressure to loosen up your tired feet.
Lastly, don't ignore any initial signs of a cracked heel. As soon as you find hard skin on your heels, start drinking more water and treat the crack as told above.
You must have noticed how easy it is to take care of your feet. You don't need to go to a beauty salon to get a pedicure done, what you need is just a good nail clipper, a foot scrubber, foot cream and your home pedicure kit is ready!!
