Idalia Benavides
Have you ever wanted to be a fast typist, or maybe just a good typist? Typing skills are something that require patience, practice, and want to develop, and they will be extremely helpful to you; as they will make you more of an asset to any company that hires you. If you feel that you need to learn how to type, but taking a typing class isn't something that you have the money or time for then keep on reading. In this article I will explain to you 5 things that you can do that will allow you to become a good typist; in time these things might even make you a great typist as well.

- Type the alphabet
I know that this sounds redundant and as if there's not point to it because you already know the alphabet. If you learn how to type it though using the correct method that's used for typing, then you will start to learn exactly where each letter of the alphabet is and you will have no trouble when you're typing words. Try typing this in a notepad or in just a word processing page each day at least 10 or 20 times.

- Learn what fingers you're supposed to use
If you look at your keyboard, on the letters F and J you will feel two little lines; that is to let you know that your pointer fingers go there. The rest of your fingers should rest next to those, and your thumbs should be on the space bar. Learning how you're supposed to use each finger is something that will also allow you to get better at typing. Try to use each of your fingers to reach the letters above or below it, this will help you to stop using one finger to type everything.

- Cover your keyboard
Now this is probably the best thing you can do after you've done the two above things. Try placing two sheets of paper on top of your keyboard and just leaving the bottom open for your hands. Try typing out your name or the alphabet this way. You can also make practice sentences and go from there.

- Practice every other day for at least 30 minutes
Practice makes perfect in typing! The more that you practice, the better that you'll get. If you are in need of learning how to type real good real quick then practicing everyday for maybe an hour is what you need; however if you only want to learn how to type for a future endeavor then practicing a little bit every other day would be just fine. Make sure to keep up your routine, because if you stop doing it chances are that you'll forget everything.

- Get a typing tutor program
If all of the above things aren't working for you, then the best thing you can do is to get a typing tutor program. There are tons of them on the internet that can be downloaded and used for free, so you will not have to pay for anything at all. A typing tutor program will instruct you on how exactly you should be typing and it will test your speed an accuracy every time you're typing something, to let you know how you are doing.
