1. Open an internet browser.
2. Type http://pcworld.jiwire.com in the URL box at the top.
Note: If this URL doesn't work, visit http://www.pcworld.com, scroll down about half way down the page, look on the left hand side menu, and find the WiFi Finder there.
3. Look and find the form under the title "Search By Location," it's in the middle of the screen to the left side.
4. Fill in the information that is being asked of you correctly.
Note: You don't have to enter in all of the information, the country, state, and zip code you're in will do just fine.
5. When you get to the "Distance Radius (miles)" pull-down menu question, you should chose 5 or 10 miles approximately to ensure that you get the places closest to you as results. You can chose a bigger number if you don't get many results, or if you're willing to drive further than that.
6. The last question that you will be provided will be if you'd like to find Pay, Free, or Both types of places that offer hotspots. Make sure that you chose Free; you are sure to get results in this category so don't hesitate.
7. The final step is to press the "GO!" button at the end of the form. This will bring you to a page of results where you will be able to filter your search down by location to help you figure out which place you want to use. If you want to do an advanced search for hotspots, you can also chose the "Advanced Search" link under the "GO!" button to do a more extensive search.
Note: You can get a map and directions to each hotspot that you find there with the links under the address.
Now that you have found a way to find free hotspots in your area, go ahead and use this anytime you don't have internet in your place of residence and you're in need of using it. This is a great tool for people with laptops that have wireless internet capabilities!
