One of the key essentials in garage sale hunting is knowing where they are. You can check the paper, on line listings, check for flyer's in stores, or just drive around till you find one. That last idea may seem a bit ridiculous but on any sunny summer weekend you're sure to find a plethora of garage sales just by driving down the street.
Keep a list handy of things you are looking for, it will be much easier to track down items with the help of a list. Keep updating it as you find things and as you find more things to look for.
If you are looking for baby supplies or children's toys it is best to look for garage sales in newer subdivisions. Often times young families settle there and as their children grow, they start to sell off their old toys and clothes. If you are looking for vintage items try an "older" neighborhood. Often times older adults are selling things that would be considered vintage. Once again keep a list for easy reference.
Another guideline to garage sale shopping is to come prepared with cash. Also keep in mind that some items are priced extremely low. Don't pay for a twenty five cent item with a twenty dollar bill. Bring smaller bills and plenty of change. Sometimes you find amazing treasures for one dollar or less.
When considering items make sure to check the overall condition thoroughly before you purchase. Also consider what the item is used for and will you use the item in the same way or do you have another plan for it. If you have another plan for it don't worry some of the best ideas come that way. Often times you will find an item that you just can't pass up. You may not have an immediate use for it but you know you will find one. In this case act quick, if you come back for the item it is likely it will not be there.
Some other quick rules for garage sales are dress comfortably. Comfortable walking shoes and clothing you can move around in. Be prepared to get in and out of the car several times, often without finding anything. You may want to keep beverages and snacks on hand, as some garage sale expeditions can take several hours.
Garage sales are a summer past time. It's an easy way for sellers to make quick money and to rid themselves of items they no longer want. It also gives the buyer the opportunity to buy some really good products at great prices. Sometimes the hunt can be frustrating, but it all pays off when you finally find that one item you have been searching for. Remember to not give up quickly, be prepared to search and have fun in the process. Enjoy the summer and the garage sales that accompany it and hopefully you will be able to turn one man's junk into another man's treasure.
