Guide to Getting Liposuction in Albuquerque, New Mexico

Marilyn Quinn
Liposuction is a cosmetic surgery procedure that removes fat from areas of the body. Common areas are the abdomen, thighs, buttocks, neck, and backs of the arms; other areas can also be done.

If you live in the Albuquerque, New Mexico area; liposuction costs in the range of $1800-$5600 dollars. You should check with the individual surgeons for exact prices. The pricing will vary greatly depending on how many areas and the amount of fat removal needed for those areas.

Recovery time from liposuction is one to two weeks. The Albuquerque Center For Plastic Surgery says that even though you can return to work after the surgery in one to two weeks; you should wait to engage in more strenuous activities for two to four weeks. They further say that full recovery from swelling and bruising may take up to six months or more. Results are permanent when you eat a sensible diet and exercise.

Some information you my find helpful to know if you are considering liposuction:

The surgery takes one to two hours to complete, but can take longer if you opt to use the ultrasound- assisted lipoplasty.

Anesthesia can be local, epidural or general. Your physician will guide you in choosing the right one for your liposuction.

Liposuction is usually performed on an outpatient basis; however, extensive procedures or having more than one plastic surgery procedure may require a short inpatient hospital stay.

Some side effects of the surgery are temporary swelling, bruising, numbness, soreness, and burning sensation.

As with all surgical procedures, there are risks associated with having liposuction. These can include asymmetry, rippling, bagginess of the skin, pigmentation changes, skin injury, fluid retention and excessive fluid loss that leads to shock.

The method used during liposuction is to make small incisions that fat is removed with. Different sized cannula, or suction tubes, are used to remove the fat. Liposuction does nothing to tighten the skin, only remove the fat. It is also stated by Dr. Hudson on his website that cellulite is usually not improved by traditional liposuction and may actually be made worse by the procedure.

You can learn more at the following websites of local Albuquerque plastic surgeons.
