Here's what you need to know about applying for a Walmart Discover credit card, and what you can expect as a cardholder:
Applying for a Walmart Discover Credit Card
You can apply for a Walmart Discover Credit Card in store, or online. The Customer Service Desk at Walmart will be able to process your application within a few minutes, but some larger Walmart stores also have booths set up specifically for credit card applicants. Walmart associates at the registers may ask you if you want to apply for a Walmart credit card during the checkout process, and you can fill out your application at or near the register within a few minutes.
Walmart does run special offers throughout the year, including an instant cash back bonus for purchases of a certain dollar amount made the same day you open your account. In these cases, you can expect to receive a credit on your account within one to two billing periods after a qualifying purchase is made. Some special offers are only extended to shoppers who open their account online.
You will have the option to enroll in the Card Security program that will cancel your account balance up to $10,000 if you become unemployed, are approved for a leave of absence, become disabled, are hospitalized, have to stay in a nursing home, are diagnosed with a terminal illness, or in the event you lose your life. As of August 2010, the monthly fee for this service is $1.66 per $100 of the monthly ending balance on the account.
Once your credit card application has been reviewed and approved, you will be able to access your credit account immediately online, and make purchases the same day.
