Cereal with milk is a quick and filling breakfast choice and also great as a snack in the afternoon or evening. However, for those on a gluten-free diet, it can be difficult to find a breakfast cereal to enjoy. Most commercial cereals contain wheat as a main ingredient which is off-limits to those following a glute-free diet. Some gluten-free diets also exclude oatmeal as a choice, so it can be very difficult to find breakfast items which are safe to eat. However, I have tried two gluten-free cereals and would like to share my findings.
EnviroKidz Organic Koala Crisp Cereal
This is one of my favorite cereals and I use it for breakfast and as a snack, because sometimes it is difficult to find a quick gluten-free snack. Koala Crisp made with organic brown rice as its main ingredient. Other ingredients include organic evaporated cane juice, organic cocoa, chocolate flavor, sea salt, organic molasses, and rice bran extract. This is a crispy rice cereal similar to Rice Krispies, but has a chocolatey flavor similar to Cocoa Krispies. It tastes delicious and is great with soy milk or regular milk. It only contains 2 grams of protein, though, so in that respect is not a high-protein food that will keep you going. But it is a very tasty breakfast cereal that you can eat without guilt. It has no added preservatives or additives. Also, the EnviroKidz company donates 1% of sales of EnviroKidz cereals to a wildlife conservation fund.
EnviroKidz Organic Gorilla Munch Cereal
Another favorite of mine is the Gorilla Munch Cereal. Those on gluten-free diets tend to eat a lot of rice produc;ts, so this is a nice change as it is based on corn. The main ingredient is organic corn meal and it also contains organic cane juice and sea salt. Like the Koala Crisp cereal, it conatins only 2 grams of protein. The cereal is very satisfying because it has crunchy corn balls that are slightly sweet. These are great packed in a Ziploc bag as a snack.
Kids and adults alike will both enjoy Koala Crisp and Gorilla Munch cereals. They provide a quick and filling breakfast and are gluten-free. The organic ingredients and donation to wildlife funds also make me feel good about purchasing the product. Both Koala Crisp and Gorilla Munch are also great to take along as a convenient snack, which will help you to stick to your gluten-free diet.
