Winter is coming and it is already snowing in some parts of the United States of America. There is nothing like the first snowfall, but there is also nothing like gliding down a steep mountain side with only two sticks to navigate you and a banana peel underneath your feet or speeding up the mountain underneath a high powered engine and feeling the wind slap you in the face, while winding in and out of trees. Can't wait for snow in your area? Check out the resort towns of Colorado, they have excellent options from the beginner to the advanced. They even have rentals and time-shares for those of you ski bums who can't leave the snow until the last flake has melted.

POWDER HORN RESORT
At a base elevation of 8200 ft. and a vertical drop of 1650 ft., Powder Horn Resort resides in the Rocky Mountains of scenic western Colorado and is situated on the edge of the world's largest flat top mountain, the Grand Mesa. The resort boasts two terrain parks, located midpoint up the mountain with numerous rails, a fun box, hits, tabletops, and areas for clinics. There is also 360,000 acres of powder atop the Grand Mesa just waiting for adventurous snowmobile freaks to go ape shiite.
Powder Horn offers varied packages ranging from family instruction to private lessons. Clinics being taught for women by women are hugely popular at this ski destination. The convenient children's learning center offers group or private lessons.
Powder Horn Resort is 35 miles east of Grand Junction, and an easy 40 minute drive via 1-70 then east to exit 49 and then south on Colorado highway 65. The ski resort is 20 miles from the Grand Mesa scenic byway.
For more information about Powder Horn resort or to book a stay, you can easily reach them via phone (970) 268-5700 or online at www.ski@powderhorn.com.

WOLF CREEK AREA
At A base elevation of a soaring 10300 ft and a vertical drop of 1604 ft., Wolf Creek Ski Area( not to be confused with Wolf Creek Ski Resort which is in Utah), is one mile east of Wolf Creek Pass Summit. A majestic 1600 acres of terrain is spread along a high alpine ridge and a number of snow-white peaks dominate the view with chutes and ridges above the timberline.
Wolf Creek lies in an area between Horseshoe Bowl and Water Fall area called Alberta Lift Area, which is spread, along a beautiful 1000 acres, great for skiers of all backgrounds.
Traditional trails are the main focus of Wolf Creek with powdered terrain leading to base area facilities that are staffed with knowledgeable employees that will guide you through your experience at Wolf Creek.
Wolf Creek is best known for its continuous powder conditions even when it is flake free everywhere else in Colorado. Classes are offered at every level and both skiers and snowboarders are welcome.
If you start out in Denver, you need to take 1-25 south to Rt. 160 west to Pagosa Springs or South Fork. The closest traffic light is 65 miles away and the town has a year round permanent population. Of 1600, so it is easy to find your way around and easier still to find friendly people.
Mountain Village lies over the ridge from Telluride and is accessible by skis or snowboard via Ski Mountain. Or you can take a 12-minute gondola ride from station telluride to station mountain village. Combining European- alpine design with rustic traditions of the Rockies, Mountain village has a number of shops, restaurants and hotels
From Durango, take highway 550, head north about 23 miles then west onto highway 62. In Placerville, head SE on highway 145 for about 19 miles then east on Rt. 145. For more information, check out their website at www.tellurideskiresort.com or call (970) 728-6900

There are a bunch more ski resorts in the wintry state of Colorado, these are just a few and according to a few of my advanced snowmobliing friends probably not the best, but they are worth checking out in the long run. If you have tons of the powder and black diamond runs what else do you need?

Sounds great. Colorado is definitely on my must-visit list, though I haven't been there yet. All the pictures I've seen look so lovely though!
