Guide to Hanging Christmas Stockings

No Mantle, No Problem!

One of the most common and popular traditions of Christmas is to hang stockings on the mantle. A lot of us have memories of getting candy and small toys in our stocking on either Christmas Eve or the first thing in the morning on Christmas Day. Of course, not a lot of houses have a mantle. So what do you do? There are a lot of ideas for those who want to hang up stockings, but don't necessarily have a mantle.

The first thing you are going to want to do is get some of those no mark hooks. Pretty much any brand works pretty well. All you do is stick them to the wall, and hang the stocking off of it. When the holidays are over, simply pull on the sticky tab, and the hook will come loose without marking up your wall. It's a pretty handy invention. This enables you to hang them pretty much wherever you want, without having to worry about damaging the walls in your house. Plus, this allows you to come up with a different place to hang them each year.

Now, where to hang them. My mom always had a new spot for ours when I was a kid. One of the spots was right next to the Christmas tree. She would either hang them on the wall closest to the tree, or on a table or something that is close to it. This is a great way to keep the activities in one centralized location and keep kids from running all over the house looking for their stocking.

The next idea is to get them even closer, and put them under the Christmas tree. Just make sure to prop them up on some presents, so they aren't easily missed or the contents don't fall out. We did this at Christmas sometimes, and it's just as fun when they are under the tree as when they are on a mantle.

The last place I would recommend would be a place that means something special to your family. My mom oftentimes put them on the breakfast table so they'd be there when we woke up. You can put them in your children's rooms so they'll each have their own special present. Put them in a room where your family usually gathers and it'll be special to your family, even if there is not mantle to go with your Christmas holiday.
