Guide to Harry Potter Spells : T

Susan300
This guide to the spells used in the Harry Potter books covers the spells beginning with T.

Taboo ~
This jinx can be placed on a word or a name, so that when that word or name is spoken, a magical disturbance is created, that alerts the caster of the Taboo that the tabooed word has been spoken. In 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows' this taboo is placed on the name 'Voldemort'.

Tarantallegra ~
A jinx that causes the victim's legs to dance uncontrollably (like a frantic Italian dance). It was first used by Draco Malfoy on Harry during the dueling club in 'Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets'. In 'Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire', it's proven that a counterjinx exists. Tarantallegra was used against Neville Longbottom inside the Department of Mysteries, where it causes a prophecy to be broken.

Tergeo ~
This spell used to siphon matter off of a surface. In 'Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince', Hermione uses it to remove blood off of Harry's face. In 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows' Ron uses it to clean off a handkerchief and Harry uses it to dust off a picture of Gellert Grindelwald in Bathilda Bagshot's house.

Toenail Growth Hex ~
Causes a person's toenails to grow uncontrollably fast. This hex was invented by the Half-Blood Prince (Severus Snape), and used by Harry in 'Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince', Harry used this hex, which causes no permanent harm, but is rather amusing.

Tongue-Tying Curse ~
This curse prevents certain information from being revealed by the person the spell is placed on. The curse makes the tongue temporarily curl backwards upon itself, so that the speaker cannot betray information, such as the location of Number 12 Grimmauld Place. It was used in ' Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows' on Severus Snape.

Transmogrifian Torture ~
In 'Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets', Professor Lockhart mentions this 'dark curse' when discussing the petrification of Mrs. Norris. (There is some speculation that Professor Lockhart may have made this one up on the spot.)
