Guide to Holiday Shopping

The holiday season is quickly approaching. The countdowns for the number of shopping days left have already begun. People everywhere are forming wish lists filled with all of the things they would love to receive as gifts this holiday season. Just as many people are compiling lists of all the people they have to shop for, and they are trying to decide what exactly to buy. Once the shopping lists are made, the next step is actually going to the store and doing the shopping. The holiday season is often a hectic time for shoppers. Here are a few tips aimed at keeping shoppers sane this holiday season.

The unofficial start to the holiday season is the day after Thanksgiving. This is often referred to as "Black Friday" in the retail world. This is the day when stores open early for special sales. Usually, the first couple of hours after the stores open are when the best sales are. Most stores, however, do have other sales that last more than just a couple of hours. Shoppers will line up hours before stores open just to get a great deal.

Usually, in the first hours, stores will offer a few specific items at ridiculously low prices. What some people do not realize is that, in many cases, stores only have a limited number of that item available at the low price. So, sometimes hundreds of people will stand in line to fight over three items!

Another problem encountered by "Black Friday" shoppers is fighting. Most parking lots will be packed with cars and up front spots are coveted. When one comes open people will literally fight over the spot. Shoppers can save some time and aggravation by parking in any available spot. The fights don't end in the parking lot. Inside the stores people will fight over getting the last item or particular size of the item. Stores can only keep so many things in stock, so it is very possible for them to sell out of popular items.

"Black Friday" is one of the busiest shopping days of the year. Because of this, stores will be extremely crowded and people will be bumping into each other all over the place. Most stores will have extra employees on hand, however they will be extremely busy so it may be a long wait to get assistance. Shoppers should also expect long lines when checking out.

One way to avoid all of this is shopping on line. Most stores have websites where people can usually purchase everything available in stores, and sometimes there are even items for sale that are not available in stores. For the most part, all sizes are available, so shoppers do not have to sift through racks to find a size. During the holiday season many stores offer free shipping or shipping at a reduced price. The internet is always open, so shoppers can purchase items any time they wish. Shopping online gives shoppers an easy way to pick out items without having to deal with crowds or long lines.

Another option for holiday shopping is waiting. Shoppers should not wait until the last minute, however they can wait for a few days after "Black Friday". Shopping on a workday or at a time when stores are generally not too crowded will also help. Shopping increases at all times during the holidays, however there are times, depending on the store and area, that have slower pockets. These are prime times to shop in store.

Keep these things in mind as you shop this holiday season. There is one final thing to keep in mind. Many people get into the spirit of giving. However, you don't want to give to thieves. Unfortunately, thieves also come out during the holiday season. Don't leave purchases in your car, even in the trunk. Criminals are on the look out for this. Stay alert and have a happy holiday season.
