The world is made of different types of people and of course no two are alike. Just as no two people are alike the same holds true for their holiday celebrations. Merging two families into one can be stressful enough, but nobody wants that stress carried on into the holidays when celebrating with a newly joined couple. Families that join together will have to over come some challenges when it comes to holiday celebrating.
One of the biggest challenges that I seen families face is the conflict in religion. This same conflict involved close family members and the have been married for almost twenty-five years so you know with some compromising they joined together with their families and have made it work.
Of course there will be other issues that you will come across such as the holiday dinner, who will be holding this dinner or more importantly do you celebrate with his or her side of the family. I myself always celebrated with having dinner at my house and we chose to invite both sides of the family to our house for one big family celebration. As you probably already know this cause less hassle and both sides of the family was happy with our decision.
My sister-in-law and brother always rotate their holiday celebrations. Each holiday is celebrated by rotating whom they spend their holiday with. For example if they spend Thanksgiving with her family then they rotate and spend the following holiday with his family which would be Christmas. This works great for them and they do visit the opposite family in the evening so everyone does get to see them.
The most important part about joining family holiday celebrations is to be considerate of each others families and feelings. It will be impossible to hold both celebrations and make your own family traditions. Just make a plan and stick to it. Be firm with the decisions that the two of you make and go with it. Do try to fit a little of each of your families in the holiday celebrations since holidays are all about families.
As the years go on your holiday celebrations will become your family traditions which will be cherished by your children. Remember that they also will be joining family traditions and you will have to compromise with the decisions and choices they make.
Holidays is about celebrating with family, friends and neighbors. Having these people close to you around the holidays will give you true peace and comfort.
