Guide to Making a Heart Necklace for Valentine's Day

Rich Jones
With the economy around the world being in such a bad state many people are out of work. This means that they are forced to look for creative ways to provide presents for the people that they love. Valentine's Day is usually one of the most expensive holidays because you are essentially required to buy someone a gift in order to show them that they mean something to you. However, with the economy many people want to become more resourceful and so they look for new ways to express this love without having to spend as much money. It is very possible to show someone that you love them without having to spend a lot of money. In fact, some gifts like a heart shaped necklace are very inexpensive and easy to make. They also accomplish the goal of making a great gift and expressing the love that you feel on this holiday.

You will need a few supplies that you can buy from a local crafts store. I purchased my supplies from Hobby Lobby via their website www.hobbylobby.com and you can do the same or stop by a local Dollar General store and buy the supplies. You only need 1 pack of red beads, 1 pack of white beads, some wire and 2 shoelaces. This will cost you about $5 before tax and you will not need the wire if you choose the shoelaces instead. You will need to form the wire in the shape of a heart and leave one side of the wire open so that you can string the beads along. If you use shoelace then you will want to use the second shoelace to complete the shape of a heart and use crazy glue to hold it in place.

Place the beads along the heart shape one at a time and alternate colors as you go. Once the shoelace or wire is filled up you will need to knot the shoelace and cut off the remaining part of the necklace so that the necklace is complete. If you used a wire instead then you just need to clamp the ends of the wire together in order to close the necklace and complete the shape. I personally like the alternating colors because it shows more of an effort and looks better but you can use one solid color if you like. This makes a great gift and it is inexpensive.
