Since skiing is a very intensive sport, it is not recommended for those suffering from heart disease. Lack of oxygen in higher altitudes can cause problems with breathing and ski-sickness. It is wise to be aware of all consequences and discuss them with your doctor so he/she can give you medication to avoid this problem.
Once you've made sure you are healthy enough to make the trip it is time to start planning. Planning is not just a matter of booking a hotel in the ski resort. It is a matter of doing research and knowing all the possibilities. For a beginner it is important to look into resorts that are suitable for them. If you read the advertisements it will seem as if every ski resort is suitable for a beginner, however, this is just an illusion they want to make, in order to attract as many skiers as possible. Search for a resort that will give you lessons for at least two hours each day in a small group. Be sure to take advice of the terrain; for a beginner it is best to choose a smaller ski resort with smaller mountains.
If you happen to be an experienced skier, you may need to check more facilities in order to make your ski trip more enjoyable. If the ski resort doesn't offer you an advanced terrain you will become bored quickly skiing with beginners. Ski resorts with black diamond trails are a good choice for experienced skiers. The term black diamond is a symbol used for a terrain that is difficult to ski which is what experienced skiers want. It is a challenge to make difficult movements in their skiing and they can prove how good they are.
It is important to wear the proper clothing when skiing. Since you will be well above sea level the temperature can be very cold. Ski jackets for men and women are easy to find in specialized shops. Look for lightweight waterproof ski jackets with fleece insulating layers surely if you want to go skiing in spring season. Dressing in layers is necessary no matter if it is autumn, winter or spring. Long underwear is the first layer you need like shirts and pants. It is best that you avoid cotton or wool because it will not be comfortable.
For the next layer you can choose a sweater, an insulating shirt, or even a vest; no matter what you choose be sure that it keeps you warm and comfortable. You can always remove a layer when the sun's temperatures rises and warms up the mountain.
Some ski accessories that you would need are:
- ski goggles to protect you against the ultraviolet rays
- a ski helmet to protect your head against injuries and prevent death
- ear covers to protect you against the wind and the cold and can prevent you from a terrible headache.
- ski socks to keep your feet warm
- ski gloves to keep your hands warm
If you want an enjoyable ski trip, don't forget any of these accessories because you surely don't want heath problems which could ruin a great day of skiing.
You are ready now for booking your ski trip. Nowadays it is not difficult to book your trip, you can go to your local travel organization, however, there are many other possibilities if you browse through the different Internet sites; it is easy to compare the prices of the different companies. Something that you surely need to check is that a lift pass is included in the price or if you need to buy it separately. It is best that you buy one before you arrive on your destination because in most countries a lift pass is necessary to enter the different ski runs. Travel insurance is surely necessary for an enjoyable ski trip. A little accident can give you a lot of trouble and you can better prevent some risks; it will save you a lot of money.
Before you leave check that you have all your documents with you like your lift pass, reservation document for your hotel, documents for the lessons and renting the skis, your passport and all the documents need. This will save you a lot of trouble and you can enjoy your vacation. Once you are at your destination it is best to rent a safe, if it is not included in the price of your hotel, and keep all your travel documents there.
Keep these tips in mind and I am sure you will enjoy your ski trip!
Have fun!

Great job letting people know the health risks. I have going skiing since I was 5 and I enjoy it tremendously. I was not aware the effects altitude sickness had on me or anyone until I went to Arapaho Basin in Colorado. I became very ill, I have to stick with Lower altitudes such as Utah where I enjoy Solitude Mt. Nothing I hear compares to Europe and Canada in terms of skiing.
I'm not a skier, but this article makes me wish that I could ski.... well done!!
