Guide to Online Dating

Step Two: Headline

It is not worth an intelligent man's time to be in the majority. By definition, there are already enough people to do that. ~ G. H. Hardy

Next a headline may be needed. Some sites are set up differently but many have a headline where you can write a catchphrase. It should be a short phrase using just a few words. A short phrase can be read in its entirety without having to open the next page and it stands out more.

I posted "waiting on the right one" at one time for my headline and later decided that it sounded like I'm just hanging around waiting on my mate. On another of my old profiles, I used "caregiver seeks caring person". That one reflected my values and my role as a registered nurse. My current headline reads "Energetic/Lazy Maiden". Later within the body of my profile I tie in my personality to my headline.

Any phrase that says something about you and at the same time compels the potential date to read on is what you're going for here.
Some examples of headlines that caught my eye are "is this slipper yours?" or "canoe for 2" or "voila". There are many different options for a headline. Other good examples of headlines are "sugar and spice" "enjoying the journey", "sail away with me", "I want to dance", and "eyes for you".

Headlines that give you a feeling of apprehension of course you will avoid. Some examples that make me nervous are "massage for you", "looking for action", "I want you bad", "bad boy seeks bad girl".

Go to some online dating sites and look at the different headlines being used. You will notice a lot of repetitious words used such as looking, searching, and needing. People will more likely dig deeper into your profile if your headline is unusual and different. Make your headline stand out by being original!

I often welcome change and the experience it brings. I try to start each day anew by remembering whose child I am and where it is I am going on this journey. Life is such a grand adventure!  View profile

By taking the focus off of finding Mr. Right I found that I could get all kinds of dates with Mr. Possibility.
