Guide to Purchasing Kwanzaa Candles

Beth Inman
Swahili for First Fruits, Kwanzaa, founded in 1966 in the United States, celebrates several African values. Between the days of December 26 and January 1 a candle is lit every day. The candles, 3 red, 3 green and 1 black, each represent a different African value. Kwanzaa celebrates the culture and history of the African people.

Each candle bears a different meaning:

Unity, Faith, Collective Work, Creativity, Cooperative Economics, Purpose, Self Determination.

Kwanzaa candles are held in a special candle holder called a Kinara and should be lit in a certain way. For more information, visit Holidays.net

Online shoppers can find a set of Kwanzaa candles for $22.29 at Pronto.com. A complete set of candles, 3 red, 3 green and 1 black, the candles come to you packaged in a nice box. These candles are not scented and are 10" tapers. They do not come with a Kinara.

At DFBGCards they offer a complete set of Kwanzaa candles for the low price of $10.00 per set. They offer two sizes, both large and small; however, both are the same price. This website offers many Kwanzaa items as well as candles.

African Prestige offers a very nice set of Kwanzaa candles. There are 7 candles in the set, and each slowly burns while giving off earth tone colors. These colors are authentic and natural. These 10" tapers are not scented and arrive nicely boxed.

The African Prestige website offers a great deal of African items. Very tasteful items are presented at very reasonable prices. Here you will find, among other items, traditional musical instruments, African Musk Green, Dudu Osun Black soap and many other items. This site is worth a drop in if you are looking for African items.
