During Pumpkinfest, the "R" Farm opens their doors to the public, allowing them to pick their own pumpkin right off the vine! This event is usually held for four days, two in September and two in October. The dates for this year have been set for September 26th and 27th, and on the 3rd and 4th of October. During this time, many people travel to Maysville to experience a little bit of the country. What makes this experience so unique is that not only do you get to pick your own pumpkin, but take a tour of the farm by trolley and/or hayride. After this, visitors are taken to the pumpkin patch where they choose their pumpkin.
In addition, the "R" Farm has several activities to partake in. This usually includes a corn maze or mazes, a petting zoo, classes, and arts and crafts just to name a few. Live entertainment is almost provided during the Pumpkinfest. This truly is a family friendly experience. While several of these adventures are loved by children, there are still plenty of things for parents to do. Included for adults is a haunted corn maze to help get into the Halloween spirit!
Many local schools in surrounding areas also visit Maysville's greatest pumpkin patch. Group and school tours are available throughout various times of the year. Each child picks his or her own pumpkin and the "R" Farm gifts one for a class pumpkin as well. There are also other special events planned for these trips, these may vary by the time of the year the school visits.
Visiting the "R" Farm's pumpkin patch is an experience all of its own. Even if you are just looking to have some great fall fun, I would suggest visiting this little farm in Maysville. The "R" Farm is open Monday through Friday, weather permitting. Due to school and group events, appointments are necessary and can be made by calling (606) 742 2429. This is with the exception of Pumpkinfest. Visit their website at www.r-farm.com for more details.
