Guide to Resale Shopping for Back to School
Back to School Fashions Can Be Purchased on a Tight Budget
Name brands
While learning to navigate through thrift stores, choose the stores that are the most organized. Call the stores ahead of time, to see what they have on sale. When arriving at the store, look for any signs that indicate that there is an additional discount available. For example Goodwill Stores, usually has a certain color tag, that is an additional percent off.
Be prepared to shop. Eat a good breakfast or lunch, before shopping. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Try to make the most of your time. If possible try to shop without children. Having a babysitter to watch your children for a few hours, will save you time. Be sure of the return policy. For example Good Will has a 14 day return policy that allows you to exchange the item.
Tape measure
Bring a tape measure with you. Write down each child's body measurements, and shoe size. For items that may not have a tag, you can simply pull out your tape measure and be certain of the size before you buy it. Having a list of what you are buying for each child, will prevent you from buying unnecessary items.
Labels
Thrift shopping regularly may help you clearly identify quality, with a simple touch of the hand. Further inspection into name labels, will help you identify who the maker is. For example, in the women's section knowing what names to look for is very helpful. Ann Taylor, St John, Banana Republic, and even Prada are labels that are hiding at resale shops. Avoid buying low quality brands, unless they have a price tag, or very little wear. Jeans that are very durable for children are Levi's, Gap, Old Navy, Tommy Hilfiger, and The Children's Place. Always turn each item inside out to check for rips, holes, and stains. When shopping for yourself, always try on or measure each piece of clothing before purchasing.
Shopping smart in upscale and department store style resale shops regularly can help you to find some pieces at a deep discount. Finding back to school fashions for less money is a great way to spend an afternoon. Resale shops are a great solution, to keeping costs for back to school fashions down.
