Whether you own a farm, a landscaping business, or just a few acres at your house-- a riding lawn mower is typically an essential piece of equipment to have. Here's a buying guide to riding mowers under $2,000.

1. Poulan Lawn Tractor

With the Poulan Lawn Tractor you get what you need. Take control with a 6 speed transmission. Rest assured with their two year warranty. The mower also comes with a 43" steel deck to ensure longer life for the machine. It's a reliable machine and doesn't cost an arm and a leg. This durable piece of hardware will set you back about $1,200.

2. MTD Yardman

This bad boy can push20 HP and is fitted with a solid Briggs and Stratton I/C engine. The blade deck is 46" so you can get the job done pretty quick. Like the Poulan, the MTD Yardman comes with a warranty, but also has a 7 speed transmission to offer. This is a good mid-range riding mower. For $1,300, it's a pretty good deal. Walmart.com has this item available to order online.

3. MTD Gold

This is a bigger upgrade from the other MTD model, but it packs it's worth in punch. The MTD Gold runs off a 502cc Briggs & Stratton Engine that can reach 20 HP with no problem. You get an electric PTO, a ton of accessories to choose from, and of course that standard 2 year warranty to back you up. This is the kind of mower that you can depend on. Expect to pay around $2,000. Search for this mower on amazon.com.

4. LA105 Lawn Tractor by John Deere

John Deere has been a name synonomous with dependable equipment for decades, and it's no suprise that their riding mowers are often the top in their class. This LA105 model runs with a 19.5 hp engine with a 5 speed transmission. The cool thing about this mower is the CargO Mount system that allows for the easy attachment of multiple accessories including the a sun canopy. This tractor is about $1,500. Visit John Deere's website for more information on shipping.

5. Bolens 15.5 HP

If you're looking to save some money without sacrificing much in performance, try Bolens 15.5 HP Mower. The Bolens 15.5 also comes with the capability of doing mulching jobs. Although you don't get armrests like some of the other mowers, you do get a cup holder, which is all a man really needs. This is a smaller mower with a little less power, but it makes up for it with a tight turning radius and a decent, affordable price. This mower costs $1,000. Lowes offers a good selection of these and other mowers.
