Abilene is one of those quiet towns in western Texas that one sometimes overlooks. What you don't know is that among an abundance of food chains in the area, they actually have some specialty and fine dining restaurants. Here's a guide to restaurants in Abilene that you may want to check out yourself:

Texas Steak Express

Steak Express is not unique to Abilene, Texas. In fact you can find they have franchises in Lubbock, Midland, Odessa, and San Angelo. Steak Express is one of the few restaurants in Abilene where you can order online. All you need to do is fill out the form in their website. One of the most items in their menu is the Nolan Ryan steaks. (If you don't know who Nolan Ryan is, click here. Steak Express in Abilene has been in business since 1997. Customers feedback: They deliver food fast and hot. Plenty of condiments and the servings are enough for two people to share. Here's a tip: f you're ordering you're steak straight right in the restaurant, make sure you get particular with how you want it cooked. Don't end up complaining because you didn't specify!

Copper Creek

Copper Creek is not just a place to dine but to hang out. They have a pretty impressive ambience. Their beer and wine selection is not bad either. Put Copper Creek in your list of fine dining restaurants in Abilene. You can view their signature dishes and full menu here. If you have a special event, you can book Copper Creek to take care of your catering needs (wedding receptions, for example). If you're dining in fine restaurants, you should expect to pay a little bit more for the ambience. At Copper Creek, the same principle applies. They get a plus point for a great variety in their menu. Try a crawfish potato salad for something different.

Cypress Street Station

Cypress Street Station is dubbed Abilene's landmark restaurant and first brewpub. If you haven't been here and are curious about how it looks like, here's a 360 degree tour. This is an excellent way to check out the place (just like when you are checking out a car from an online dealer). Call them for catering services. Customers have a lot to say about the waiter service, but it really depends on your experience. Those who are wanting to stay on the low-carb diet should try their Specialty Plates. Cypress Street Station has a great reputation for being one of those overlooked places in small Southwestern cities like Abilene. Many are surprised at how they enjoyed the food and the atmosphere here.

Zookini's

If you want a simple and tasty meal, you can find it at Zookini's. If you're hankering for all-you-can eat salad, they have a great salad bar too. My husband loved it. We have been to Zookini's several times because they are located in a very accessible part of the town. This is not an exclusive restaurant in Abilene, though. You can find Zookini's in Lubbock and San Angelo. In fact, in their website, they have menus for specific location. One thing you notice is the theme of their restaurant. Very pleasing. Zookini's doesn't have a catering service but can reserve a big dining area for a large crowd. They have been in business since 1992.

Towne Crier Steakhouse

I don't want to pass up on this great Abilene, TX restaurant. You know how it is when you feel like you're being served by home-cooked family style restaurant where food is so good, you always wanna come back? Towne Crier Steakhouse serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It's not a fancy place, but the food they serve makes you feel special. Their menu consists of more than steak, in fact, it is much like a buffet instead of fine dining restaurant. They have been in business for 40 years and customers agree that they are very consistent with the food they serve. Very delicious baby back ribs. Because it's more of a buffet style restaurant (of course you can order off the menu), all their meals include all-you-can-eat salad bar, home made soup, hot rolls, and your choice of side dishes.
