beautiful beaches and views, exciting activities, friendly people and so much more. My husband and I have gone there together several
times, and my husband went there many times growing up. Here are some ideas to maximizing your vacation while you are there.
The first is when you are going to make your trip. Lake George is a wonderful region all year round, but the most exciting time is between
Memorial Day and Labor Day. Prior to Memorial Day or after Labor Day, many of the shops on the boardwalk are not open, as well as many of the
activities are not open as well. These off season times, although less pricey to stay in the hotels, will not be as exciting and as filled with as much to do
as the peak time.
One way to mitigate the expenses is to stay just outside of Lake George, which is the main attraction of the region. Main Street in Lake George, although it has many beautiful hotels right on the beach, can tend to be expensive. There are alternatives, for example, I have stayed in the Sleep Inn and Suites in Queensbury, NY, which is a 5-10 minute drive outside downtown Lake George. We had a sizeable room, which included a whirlpool in bath for under $100 per night. The rooms were beautiful, had a restaurant right across the parking lot, and allowed us to be right outside the fun. A short drive to fun, while staying in affordable and comfortable accommodations.
There is fun to be had all over the main boardwalk, no matter what your age is. There is more than one arcade for the kids, as well as the opportunity to play miniature golf. If museums are your thing, there is also a wax museum which you can tour for a nominal fee. There are many shops to browse and window shop as you walk, from T-shirt shops to different crafts. My husband and I bought a lovely framed picture which states our names and their definitions and personality traits. Very lovely when we were on our honeymoon.
You must try the activities as well, whether excitement or relaxation is your idea of fun. If it's relaxation you want, set up on the beach right off of Lake George, and go for a swim. The water is quite comfortable and serves for a great time. When you need to towel off, sit on the side of the beach and look at the beautiful mountains that provide the backdrop. Tan in the sun as you watch the day pass you by, you will love it.
If excitement is more your cup of tea, take the opportunity to go parasailing. For a nominal fee, enjoy a thrilling trip high above Lake George. Beautiful scenery and the wind at your back. Phenominal!
If this is your first trip to Lake George, you will love it. If you are repeat vacationer, try something new, or just take in everything you love. Anyone who hasn't gone, go! It is a place not worth missing.
