Idalia Benavides
Do you have a snowboard in need of a good wax? If you do, then you're probably wondering what you need to know in order to perform the waxing yourself right? Well, in this article you will find the most common questions people have when their boards need waxing for the first time and they want to do it themselves. Enjoy!

What things will I need to wax my board?
In order to wax your board, you will need to preferably be in an open space, set some newspaper down for the wax to falls off, and you may need some books or a workbench to hold your board in place as you start waxing it. You will then also need the wax, and iron, and a good scraper to remove the wax once it gets cool. If you don't have an iron, you snowboard iron, you should check out your local stores to find a cheap household iron to use especially for this. As for the wax and scraper, these can both be bought at snowboarding shops anywhere, there's really requisites for the scraper, just make sure its not a thick and big one; the kinds that you use for the dishes will work just fine.

How do I wax my snowboard?
The first thing that you have to do is set down the newspaper, so that you don't make a mess. Next, set up your board on a steady place upside down, or use the books or workbench as a place hold.

Now, connect the iron and let it heat up for a couple of minutes. Once you feel it getting hot enough that it could melt stuff, put the wax bar on it and let it melt the wax onto the board. Make sure to drip wax all across the board's base by moving the iron back and forth across the board.

Once you have finished putting wax all over, put the wax bar away and start ironing the wax all over the board until you've reached every space. Don't stop in one place for too long, as this might destroy your board's surface in seconds.

Once you've ironed in all of the wax you dripped on the board, let it get cool, but not completely dry off cold on the board. You will usually have to wait about 15 minutes for this to happen. The next thing to do is to start scraping all of the wax off of the board. Don't let any stay on there as that will only make your board slower when you're riding it.

Once you're done grab the scotchbrite scraper and buff the boards base, you will do this by rubbing it all over and making it smooth if there's still any wax at all on it.

Should I wax my board often?
Your board needs to be waxed almost as often as every time you use it. If it's possible, you can try applying a coat of hot wax about every 3 times you ride it. You should also apply wax throughout if you notice that your board's base is looking dry or if you notice that you're not riding as fast as usual.

Are there kits available?
Yes! There are many snowboard tuning kits available for purchase. They range in prices, some start as low as $10 and other may be up to $50.
