Guitar Hero 3: How I Became a Fanatic in One Day - 12/25/2007

Alright, I am a novice game player. I have hundreds of titles on PS1, PS2, XBOX, and PS3 but I rarely play them and in the last year I have played maybe a total of 20 hours combined game play. Christmas 2007 held an amazing gift that I did not know would single handedly change my entire game playing perspective. I never beat any games. I like the idea of playing games, I am the kind of person that wants to play games and beat them. I admit I am not good enough and do not waste enough time playing them to get good enough.

Enter Guitar Hero 3 - PS3 edition - Legends of Rock. There is only one word for it - unbelievable. We started opening gifts this morning at 7am. My wife surprised me with Assassin's Creed and Call of Duty 4:Modern Warfare. I said, "Awesome". I had two of the best games in the world. Then I opened Guitar Hero 3. I thought to myself, "Oh...I never thought I would get that kind of game." It was the full edition, guitar and all. I opened it with my 6 year old son. He saw stickers and wanted to immediately help me decorate my new guitar. Together we slowly, pain stakingly decorated making sure to place each sticker in the exact right spot. It was funny to me as I am a business professional and did not realize how interesting a game guitar was. I thought it might be fun.

We put the disc in our PS3 and went immediately to practice mode. After playing through my first song the whole family looked around the room at each other, we were all smiling and every person wanted to be a rock hero. We played for ten hours straight and ripped songs like "Welcome to the Jungle", "Black Magic Woman", and I personally challenged Slash from Gun's N Roses and I won the challenge. My children saw me as a rock GOD. They heard me tear through song after song, my fingers gliding across the frets knocking off riffs like I needed a harder challenge.

My daughter is at an awkward age, 9 years old. She is wanting to be a teenager but not quite mature enough to be. There is not a lot that we have in common so there are times when it is difficult to hold a conversation other than to ask as many questions as I can to continue our conversation. Today, we found something in common. We both like rocking out! She spent several hours working on her guitar skills and showing us she can keep up with the adults. My wife got into the mix and my six year old son tried his best to show us up.

My wife was truly impressed. Did I mention I used to be in a garage band in high school? All couch nerds and business professionals should relax a little, adjust your guitar strap, and tear into this game with a passion, because this is the best game I have ever played! If you need a new game perspective and you want to feel like you have kicked some butt, buy Guitar Hero 3 and rock on!
