Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock for PlayStation 3 was originally released on November 23, 2007. This was the first Guitar Hero released that had Neversoft Entertainment, replacing Harmonix, as the developer.

Guitar Hero III features a Les Paul wireless guitar, so you are free to move around the room or even leave the room while you are still playing. The guitar uses 2 AA batteries. It also features a detachable faceplate so you can customize the guitar. The game has over 70 songs plus downloadable songs. Slash, from Guns N' Roses and Velvet Revolver, and Tom Morello, from Rage Against the Machine, are featured in the game. Slash and Tom Morello are playable characters.

The game play consists of Career, Co-Op Career, Quickplay, Multiplayer, Training, and Online. In career mode, you earn money by beating the song. The better you do on the song, the more you earn. At the store in career mode, you can buy guitars, finishes, songs, characters, outfits, styles, and videos. Multiplayer consists of Face-Off, Pro Face-Off, Battle, and Co-Op.

Battles are a new element to Guitar Hero. During a Battle, you earn power-ups. The power-ups are: Broken String, Difficulty Up, Whammy Bar, Double Notes, Lefty/Righty Flip, Amp Overload, and Power-Up Steal. When Battling a friend and you both complete the song, you go to sudden death and all power-up are Death Drains. Online allows you to do Quick Match, Custom Match, and Create Match. There is also an online leaderboard that allows you to see how your scores match up against everybody else.

The songs that you can download For Guitar Hero III include: "Slither", "She Builds Quick Machines" and "Messages" by Velvet Revolver, "Antisocial" by Trust, "Ernten Was Wir Saen" by Ernten Was Wir Saen, "So Payaso" by Extremoduro, "No More Sorrow" by Linkin Park, "Sleeping Giant" by Mastodon, "We Three Kings" by Steve Ouimette, "The Pretender" and "All My Life" by the Foo Fighters. Downloadable songs start at $2.49. The Boss Battle songs can be downloaded for free.

For first time Guitar Hero players, like myself, learning how to play is pretty easy. Starting out on easy and working your way up is the best way to hone your skills. Career mode allows you to unlock songs and others you purchase from the in-game store with the cash you earned. Guitar Hero III did a pretty good job on getting songs my Metallica, Guns N' Roses, The Rolling Stones, Black Sabbath, and many more good artists. The graphics look pretty good and getting around the menu is easy. Load times are not that bad and do not seem like much of a hindrance to the game play.

With multiplayer, online play, and so many songs to unlock and master you will be playing Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock for a long time. The game is incredible addictive in single player mode and even more so when playing with your friends. Guitar Hero III is a must own game for any Playstation 3 owners.
