If you're a woman who wants to learn about gun safety, it's intimidating to take a firearms course. Will I be the only one who's never used a gun before? Will I be surrounded by burly, intimidating men? Will I be the only girl in the class? Several places in Minnesota offer women-only gun safety classes. Most women in these classes have never handled a firearm before, so you're among friends. Here are a few places offering women-only firearms classes in Minnesota.

Note: Most of these classes offer introductory gun training and safety only; they are not the required permit-to-carry class for a conceal carry permit.

Women's Intro to Firearms - Shade's Landing - Lakeville MN
Price: $50

Shade's Landing is a family-owned gun shop and range located in the Southern suburbs of Minneapolis. In this 3 ½ hour introductory course, you'll learn about handguns & rifle operation, gun parts, safety, gun cleaning, and unloading & loading - all taught by a woman instructor. You'll also get hands-on experience loading and unloading an actual firearm. This course is held at Gander Mountain and includes a certificate upon completion. You can also buy a spot for someone else, making this an excellent gift for a girl wanting to learn about guns.

They also offer a women-only conceal carry course for $75 if you're interested in getting a conceal carry permit. Here is their website.

Firearms for Women - Oakdale Gun Club: Lake Elmo, MN
Price: $30

The Oakdale Gun Club offers a 3-day firearms seminar for women. This is hands-on class, teaching you about revolvers, rifles, pistols, and shotguns. This is an introductory class only; no certificates will be issued. The first two days are classroom training and the third day is range time. This class is only offered in the spring and summer months. I've been to the Oakdale Gun Club many times and I always find their staff very welcoming and friendly, so I definitely recommend this class. Check their website for details and registration. The Oakdale Gun Club is located at 10386 North 10th Street, Lake Elmo, MN.

Ladies-Only Basic Handgun Familiarization Course - Bill's Gun Shop and Range:
Price: $94

This is a four-hour class, introducing you to firearms, and is held in Robbinsdale, MN. By the end of the class, you'll be able to safely handle and operate a gun. This is a hands-on class and everything you need is included - firearms, ammo, targets, and ear & eye protection.

Bill's Gun Shop also offers a Girls With Guns Gala about once a month. This is a fun-filled, women-only, gun-totin' time. Pizza and beer are provided after the class, at the nearby Broadway Pizza. The Gala is $75.

Bill's Gun Shop is located at 4080 W Broadway N in Robbinsdale, MN. Their phone number is 763-533-9594. Click here for their website.

If you're a woman and have ever been curious about guns, self defense, hunting, or just want firearms operation knowledge, don't be intimated! Sign up for introductory firearms class - they're a lot of fun, you'll meet new people, and you'll come out of the class with lifelong knowledge. Stay safe and watch your 6!

The first time I ever shot a gun was a 22 rifle at camp with my Campfire girls. I shot a 39 out of 40 on the target! Women should know how to handle a gun.

I've never held a gun, and I'm with R.K. -- they scare me! But I have to admit that this would be good knowledge to have!

I know many want to have guns in the house in this age for protection....I'm a chicken...they still scare me!
