GunGame: A Fun Counter Strike (CS) Mod

GunGame is a fairly popular modification or "mod" for all the versions of the popular game Counter Strike. Mods are generally made by players and developers in the community of the game. GunGame began as a mod for Counter Strike: Source created by "Cagemonkey", but due to the popularity GunGame was also made for Counter Strike: Condition Zero, as well as Counter Strike: 1.6.

GunGame is basically a mod which creates different levels within the game. Each player begins with a Glock and after getting a kill they advance to the next level. This continues until the game is eventually won by a player. As the player gets more kills they get to better and better weapons. Eventually the player makes it to the hardest of all levels, the last two. For the second to last level the player must get a kill using a grenade. The last level is the most difficult because the player must get a kill using only the knife.

Generally GunGame works it's way from the pistols up the chain of weapons using a single kill to advance, some server admins decide to set the kill amount to higher amounts such as 2 or 3 kills in order to advance. Another possible change to GunGame is the order of weapons, sometimes servers will go in the opposite order of weapons, but the grenade and knife remain the last two levels. Also some admins decide to add other weapons. One last feature that is commonly changed is spawning, many servers run maps as respawn, meaning that when you die you respawn immediately, others do not run a respawn but rather use rounds. All these settings differ depending on the server you are playing in.

GunGame is popular for many reasons, one possible reason is that it adds an interesting twist to Counter Strike that no other shooter game has achieved. GunGame effectively forces players to use all the guns in the game. By forcing players to use each weapon players are also constantly improving with each weapon. Becoming skilled with all weapons is very difficult but GunGame does well with assisting in the task.

GunGame is a freeware mod, which can be downloaded upon entering a server running the mod. GunGame mod can also be downloaded from the official GunGame Wiki.
