Gunn Appointment Gives Norwich Some Much Needed Stability

Norwich City Football Club today announced Bryan Gunn will remain as Norwich City manager next season. The appointment was expected, but a slight surprise that it has been allowed to happen without a Chairman or Chief Executive; following the resignations of Neil Doncaster and Roger Munby less than 24 hours ago.

The decision has divided fans, but it's fair to say most fans disagree with this appointment. However, personally, I am in favour of it. This football club has had far too many managers in its recent history, and I feel sacking Gunn would be a knee-jerk reaction to relegation.

Stability is what's needed and it is now time to back the manager. It's vital this appointment was made quickly so that the inevitable rebuilding process can begin. David Marshall has already left the club to join Cardiff and Lee Croft looks set to complete his move to Derby County. No doubt, these are good players, but you can't build a team around players who don't want to be here.

Gunn will already know who he wants to get rid of and a fair idea of the type of players he will need. Therefore, the next stage will be identifying these players and bringing them into Norwich City as soon as possible.

The aim of the game is to put together a squad with a mix of youth and experience, which includes at least 25 contracted Norwich City players. If Norwich decides to use the loan system, then bring in four players on season-long loans. At least then, they are imbedded into the squad for the full season. I really don't see the point in short-term loan deals.

Gunn has a tough job on his hands, but I'm in full support of his management. And I think he deserves to be judged over 46 games with his own players. What happened last season was hugely unfortunate, but now we start again with a clean slate. The problems prior to Gunn's arrival were too severe to be solved in three short months. But I hope at the end of next season we would have regained our championship status.
