Guyliner | Eyeliner for Men | Guyliner Application
Guyliner is Hitting the Fashion Scene Even for the Common Guy
My first experience with guyliner came at Christmas time. We always have the grandchildren make out a Christmas wish list. Over half of the kids are teenagers and making out a Christmas list makes shopping so much easier. We noticed that on a couple of Christmas lists were guyliner. We were clueless as to what this was so we investigated at the makeup counter at a couple of department stores. Come to find out guyliner is nothing more than eyeliner for men. We never knew our grandsons were wearing eyeliner. Are we out of touch?
While we were at the makeup counter, we were given tips on how to apply the guyliner and what we needed.
Any eyeliner will work. It is best to use pencil eyeliner versus a liquid liner. A pencil liner is softer than a brow liner and will make application easier.
For day wear, use brown eyeliner so it doesn't look so dark and you will not have raccoon eyes.
During the day the brown eyeliner is only put on the bottom rim of your eyes. Start at the inside corner of the eye and work your way out and up just past the bottom rim of your eye. Next you will want to smudge the eyeliner. You want the eyeliner to look soft and natural for daywear. You can achieve the smudge by using your pinky finger or by using a soft makeup brush. Never have a solid rigid line when wearing guyliner.
For nighttime, the guyliner can be more extreme on the eyes.
When wearing guyliner at night you can go with black eyeliner. The black eyeliner is put totally around the whole rim of the eye top and bottom. The eyeliner is still worked from the inside corner of the eye to the outside corner working in an upward stroke. For night time the liner can be put on much thicker. You will still want to smudge the liner before completion. Smudge the eyeliner evenly as you go across the eye. This will really make the eyes pop out.
This could take a little practice to achieve the desired look. If you mess up the eyeliner washes off fairly easy. If you wet the tip of the eyeliner it will apply much easier.
As my husband and I were out shopping for the holidays we were always checking to see who was wearing guyliner. Much to our surprise many young men had eyeliner on. Some eyeliner was bold but there were many sporting guyliner so faint you could hardly tell. As guys learn how to apply their guyliner I am sure it will not be so noticeable, unless they want you to notice it.

Post a CommentIf my husband started wearing guyliner I think I'd have to go to the hospital to have my sides sewn up from laughing. Just can't see my macho man primping. But, I am glad to know about guyliner so I can keep up to date on what's going on in the real world!
Marilisa, my husband and I were shocked. We thought this was for the goth look only. I also heard a seventh grader talking about this on the radio this morning. Darn I am getting old. And I used to work in the fashion industry. :-(
I'll have to tell my husband ;)
