Paltrow holds her own on the "Country Strong" soundtrack in four songs. In addition to the title track, she solos on "Shake That Thing" and "Coming Home". Gwyneth also gets the enviable job of singing a duet with country superstar - and co-star - Tim McGraw in "Me and Tennessee". Other country greats appearing on the soundtrack include Hank Williams, Jr. and Faith Hill.
While any "Glee" fan will expect the guest star to sing a song, Paltrow's Holly Holliday contributed four songs to the soundtrack of "The Substitute". Two of the songs were Glee's signature mashups including "Nowadays/Hot Honey Rag" and "Singin' in the Rain" blended with Rihanna's "Umbrella". A quick shot of Holly motivating her class with "Conjunction Junction" showed her teaching style. However, Paltrow's voice showed through with her cover of Cee-Lo's "Forget You".
This isn't the first time Paltrow has shown her singing chops on film.
"Duets" - 2000
A tale of lives intermingling as they converge upon Kansas City for a Karaoke contest, the "Duets" soundtrack features Gwyneth Paltrow in three songs. She takes a solo shot at Kim Carnes' iconic "Bette Davis Eyes" and teams up with Huey Lewis on "Cruisin'". Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds sings "Just My Imagination (Running Away with Me)" with Paltrow.
"Emma" - 1996
As matchmaker Emma Woodhouse in this adaptation of the Jane Austen novel set in 19th century England, Gwyneth Paltrow paired up with Ewan McGregor for the tune "Silent Worship"
"Infamous" - 2006
Starring as Kitty Dean in this Truman Capote bio-pic, Paltrow appeared on the soundtrack singing Cole Porter's "What is This Thing Called Love?"
Gwyneth Paltrow has contributed her singing voice on a television show other than "Glee"
"Saturday Night Live" - 2001
While hosting an SNL episode featuring Ryan Adams as the musical guest, Paltrow joined the cast in three songs. She and Maya Rudolph teamed up for "Flashdance" and were joined by Ana Gasteyer for "Red, White and Not You". The "Grease" and karaoke-junkie favorite "Summer Nights" was a group effort with Paltrow being joined by Chris Kattan, Will Farrell, Gasteyer, Tracy Morgan and Horatio Sanz.
"Country Strong" opens nationally on January 7 and the soundtrack is available through the film's official website here.

Post a CommentI saw her on Glee and was surprised she could sing!
Singing as part of her character is one of the ways Gwenth reminds me of my absolute favorite, Meryl Streep. I hope she continues to impress us all and eventually leaves a body of work comparable with Streep's. What a joy that would be.
she's not bad a singer, and surprisingly better than most actresses that try to sing...with the exception of a few, such as Zooey Deschenel (remember her in ELF?...now she's got her own gig called "She & Him", they do a great rendition of I Put a Spell on You... )
I certainly never thought of her as a singer, but she is. Good article!
