While it may have taken a while to work yourself into actually attending, don't let yourself get caught up in thinking too hard.
If you are at a public workout facility, the mere eye to brain perception can work against you. It is very important to shove certain thoughts aside and become exceedingly non judgmental.
You should never discuss your impressions with other gym attendees. There is a reason there is little eye contact while people are working out in the gym.
Most, if not all, weight and strength apparatus is meant to be used solitary manner. Generally speaking, most people go to the gym alone and want to be left alone.
Sure, it is easy to look at the rows of humans running on treadmills and have thoughts about hamsters on exercise wheels. They huff and puff and go nowhere. They feel as though they WILL get somewhere. They are, after all, in a gym.
If you have already had this borderline obnoxious thought perhaps you should chastise yourself and move on to toning your arms. Hey, the upper arms are just plain blubbery; you need to remedy this situation.
You might decide to use barbell equipment which is strategically in front of mirrors. Are you kidding me? You should not, in any circumstances sneak looks at the person next to you via the mirror. The mirror is there for sole purpose of self imposed mortification of yourself. No comparing of spare tires, age, or excessive sweating.
Curb those observations of "Hey! My gut isn't that big!" In any case, the next person you see working out will have a flat, taunt and toned physique. They look like the attractive person in the middle of the night infomercials. And of course you instantly hate them when you are self inflicted victim of allowing yourself to get fat. You might even ripple like Jell-O when spanked.
Don't scowl; just do not look in those mirrors. At least not until you have a neutral look on your face. Move on to the tummy reduction gym equipment. It doesn't matter if you are meekly looking at the floor, just do it.
The most important thing to remember when working out at a gym is to bridge the mental thought process between self loathing and confidence. And remember, Rome wasn't built in a day, patience will help too.

Post a CommentI need to start with walking around the block a few times. (And it's free!)
I wanted to join a gym to tone up. The money, sadly, prohibits me. I don't want to be some muscular body-builder type (how gross they look all basted up like turkeys), but just a healthy old man. Well, actually, I wouldn't mind looking like some of the guys on World's Strongest Man Competition.
I curse those mirrors! Well I suppose they do motivate but they can be so cruel
I never look in the mirror! Not able to sign in today...
This is why we owned a Curves for so many years - No Men, No mirrors! LOL cheers :)
