This Gypsy is especially useful for those with limited crafting space. If, due to space constraints, you have to store your machine so that it's not easily accessible, you can design multiple works on the Gypsy over time, and then cut them all at once, reducing the number of times you must unpack the full sized machine. If your machine is kept a location other than your home, perhaps at your place of business, the Gypsy gives you the ability to design after hours.
Some of the features available on the Gypsy can also be used with the Cricut DesignStudio but many are completely new. All Cricut cartridges that have been produced are accessible on the Gypsy - this means that you can preview how a new cartridge would work in designs alongside the cartridges that you already own. It also means you can preview designs using cartridges that you do own but haven't yet uploaded to your Gypsy. There are also two virtual cartridges that come with the Gypsy and that are only available through it. Once you've linked a cartridge to the Gypsy you no longer need to have the physical cartridge in the Cricut machine to cut, so long as the Gypsy is hooked up to the machine. You can mix and match letters and images from different cartridges to create truly unique designs. There is no need for a keyboard overlay with the Gypsy. Like with the Cricut keyboard overlays, more images are available within the same cartridge by hitting the shift key.
One great benefit the Gypsy offers is the ability to save a design. If you're not sure that you like a particular design or layout, you can save it and look at it again later to decide, all without cutting. You can also save designs that you haven't finished and update them later, which means you don't have to worry about being interrupted while working. If you are working on a design that hasn't been saved, the Gypsy will automatically ask you if you would like to save it before exiting.
The Gypsy can be charged and use battery power for truly portable designing or it can be plugged into a standard outlet. You can change the settings to allow for left-handed use as well as right-handed, and you change the brightness to adjust for different lighting around you. It makes an excellent addition to the Cricut family and could be of great benefit to certain crafters.
